I posted this in the mid season draft discussion, as they said in the article he probably would have been in the team now due to injuries in Roughead and Dean, I think he's missed his chance.

He stepped away due to homesickness, but he hasn't even been playing Gaelic football while he's been away, he's been playing hurling.

We took Marty Clarke back and saw that once you break the development momentum, you can't get it back.

No guarantee that Wilson, who grew up playing footy, was ever going to make it. But he stepped away to play basketball, and we've been putting the effort into him for a few years now and I really don't see him making it at AFL level.

I for one think this Irish experiment (and our current USA one) are done!

True, Marty Clarke was not the same player the 2nd time around.

Apparently Keane would like to come back. I'd take him back if we could put him back on a Cat B rookie spot.

Would not want him back after how and when he left us

Also doubt he makes it at AFL Level anyway

Well if he can just come back and take his cat b rookie spot again, then sure.

Does he actually want to come back? If we had to re-draft him, we might look elsewhere.

The other question would be is he still good enough to be on an AFL list?

I never saw anything in him personally. But others on here did. Interesting to see what happens.

He is still on our list and unlike Marty Clarke who missed two and a half years, Keane ahs missed 6 months and 7 matches

Yes but I think Marty Clarke was a much better, and natural player before he left than Keane.

This is the point people are missing

We didn’t get anything for him. No mid season draft pick, no open list spot

So would be a No brainer to take him back if he’s available

Doesn’t mean we have to play him or give him another contract and doesn’t affect our salary cap (as I understand it).

We certainly need another talk defender option… Why would we cut our nose off to spite our face because you’re unhappy with how he left?

Well I'm all for it then, if it's as simple as him just showing up to the club.

Sad indictment on the whole Cat B rookie concept for mine; that spot should be going to a young Australian player rather than pissing the investment away on an AFL vanity project

Except the Cat B rookie list is separate to the primary list, young Australians don't qualify unless they come from a different sport like Wilson or Keeffe.

Same reasons as if he had of decided before the draft, we wouldn't have had an extra spot on the list nor can we replace him in the midseason draft.

I've got no problems with taking a speculative punt on a kid from a different sport or from overseas, if they don't work out or decide to go home, that's life.

I realise that, what I'm suggesting is they should scrap the concept and add the place to the regular or rookie list...if they want to support players new to the game, do it through grassroots investment instead of trying to cherry pick
