Shifting to 5 days rather than maintaining 7 days in isolation will cost lives; it’s as simple as that.

Maybe.

PCR testing has been largely discontinued, RAT's are inaccurate, expect where they have to people aren't getting tested anyway and if they do test positive to a RAT it's voluntary reporting.

It all adds up to we might as well just do away with mandatory isolation and just tell people to stay home if they're not well, which is the very near future anyway.

^ No maybes about it. “We” just don’t value older people or those with vulnerabilities.

2 of my colleagues are sick at the moment, same symptoms but they must have caught whatever it is independently as they've had no contact with each other.

Neither have been tested but are working from home while unwell so as not to infect others.

Basic common sense.

Yes. People are starting taking the piss by reusing photos of RAT to get extra days off or working from home. So time to treat this like any other virus.

But it is. I don't know anyone who was too "ill" to not go to the GF or a GF party. Puts everything on equal terms.

Stupid short sighted decision that will invariably lead to more cross infection and more deaths. Outrageous. Just because people are tired of having to wear masks or isolate does not mean that the virus has gone away.

A sad reflection on putting selfishness before people.

^@WPT

Referring to the decision that people no longer have to isolate if they test positive?

It's a pragmatic decision.

You can't get a free PCR test, RATs asre unreliable people just aren't getting tested anymore as most have either had Covid or know people who do and have had worse flu's (Vaccinations definitely helping).

Plus the governments were keen to end financial support for people forced to isolate.

I referred to two people above who have both been ill, took common sense precautions to work from home but neither got tested. The mandatory isolation was a definite disincentive to get tested for many, keeping it in place made no sense as it was unenforceable.

We have attitudinally shifted, for better or worse, right or wrong.

On the contrary, looking at the statistics/graphs in this report...

https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/case-numbers-and-statistics

It is a wise move. The isolation of people with no symptoms and preventing them going to work is ludicrous. If someone feels they are vulnerable, there are many precautions they can take and if required, very effective medication is available.

There are anti virals available that, if taken quickly after catching it, can kill it.

If you can get them.

That is encouraging – I hadn’t realised the case numbers had declined so significantly.
