|
Very pleased to win the first game of the season.
I would suggest that Kreuger and McRae will be back in contention for selection for next week's game against the Crows.
I would keep WHE and Cameron in reserve at present.
Very excited that Maynard, McInnes, Poulter, Ruscoe, Callum Brown, Kelly, Begg, Johnson, Draper, Wilson are waiting in the wings to play in 2022.
Life always seems better after a first round win...

Did you see his set shot for goal from 40 go through the middle? Most of the league can't do that.
Play of the night (for me): 3rd quarter, half back flank and Saints going forward. McCreery chases and tackles Hill, the ball spills out, McCreery chases loose ball, bumps Saints player off it, picks up cleanly and executes handball to teammate. Pies go forward and have shot on goal (can't remember if we kicked it.)
He won't be a star, but he has talent. |

I agree T I think the new coaches want the ball in the hands of mids not rucks
He certainly looks fitter and that can never be a bad thing and he hit the ball away from his own feet which was a huge positive
As for Sidey he was solid not brilliant kicked 2 nice goals especially the curling one on the left
But 16 touches (yes 16 not 17 as in mods post 10 kick 6 handballs) isn't a great return especially at 63% eff with 4 clangers as well
He didn't have a goal assist and only 2 inside 50's but he had loads of pressure acts and played his role within the team structure
He was ranked on champion data as our 12th best player make of that what you will
I think he played the role the coach asked him and that's fine he doesn't need to get it 28 times now others can carry some of the workload
Personally I think its great we aren't reliant solely on Sidey or Pendles to be brilliant for us to win a game its been a long time since that has happened |

| Cox does my head in. I'd written him for most of the night. But as they say "the big blokes don't get any smaller" and he proved that late in the game by clunking a few big marks. He looks good when the game slows down and his height becomes more of a factor. But is it enough to justify his selection? 🤔 |

Good win by the team, I put my hand up and say that I didn't think they would win. Strangely I found myself listening to the 6PR post game discussion. Made a very good point.
Cox vs Cameron, who will offer more? The opinion of the 6PR team was that Cameron over four quaters will give the side a better dynamic, he is also younger. Cox does the odd brilliant flash and will still offer a target, but probably not to the same level.

I didnt see much of Tyler last night but I still like the way he moves and has good footy nous. This could be his breakout year.

He did have one credited last night during the game but it's dropped off the AFL stats, since. Plainly, though the correct way to view his game was that he kicked two goals personally and had a leading and direct hand in two others - whether they were or weren't technically "assists" according to some idiot with a touchscreen in their hands is scarcely pertinent. |

Yes. This continuing thing with Grundy is weird. We play West Coast and Grundy has routinely taken NicNat to the cleaners, blown him up and monstered West Coast physically but people have argued that the influence of ruckmen at centre bounces is the only thing that matters. So, we start a season with a new gameplan, win the centre clearances 18 to 9 - and the scoring difference from centre clearances was specifically more than the difference between us winning and losing the game - and some people want to describe our gun ruckman as being "thrashed" by Marshall. It's hilarious re-watching the Foxtel coverage - the commentators' view was that Grundy was "dominating" in the centre (their word, not mine). We kicked a surprising number of goals within 20 seconds of elapsed play from a centre bounce for a team whose ruckman was "thrashed".
You can tell it's all nonsense, of course because the usual trolls haven't turned up to post about Grundy and - as you rightly observe - the response of many seems to be to acknowledge greateness merely by not being churlish about it.
On that last note, one thing that does require special mention is Adams' game. We had 18 centre clearances and he had 8 of them (and, I think, 11 stoppage clearances in total). For a team that couldn't buy a centre clearance in 2021, his contribution was sensational.
The centre structures depend on all of the people who are in there. I don't think Adams has suddenly become a different centre clearance player after all these games. But having big, dangerous and pacy players around the pack - especially ones who have been instructed to get the ball and run forward - helps everyone who is in that centre square. De Goey, Elliott, Lipinski, Elliott and Grundy - all looking to get the ball and move forward from the square - is a whole more dangerous thing than anything we've dished up from the centre square since Pendles and Sidey started to slow up. |

I'm not sure why you wouldn't like him. He has been left too many times to try and mop up the mess made by others .Most times he succeeds and continues to break the lines. I just hope the coach tells him to keep doing what he's doing then kick it long to a tall forward ,one out in the square .I love him. |

Not only did they give us Lipinski but they took Treloar off our hands. That was a changeover about as good as getting rid of Beams and getting Crisp. Great decision-making by the Collingwood football department. No wonder Beveridge is feeling the heat. |

He took a few VERY telling marks when they counted last night. I reckon he played a fair chunk of that game with either badly bruised or cracked ribs. It will be interesting to see the stance the Weak as Urine AFL take on that cowardly ,behind the play bump from behind. |

Interesting observation
Adams was awesome I think if you look closer you’ll see another change in his game
He had 25 touches last night but only 9 kicks meaning he fed the ball out to other players more often
Kicking has never been his strongest asset so it’s only a minor change but noticeable one
Adams has been for a long time battling one out we tried Wills and Sier both big bodies but didn’t make the cut
The new mix looks more likely to be smash in types (not saying Pendles and Sidey wouldn’t put there body on the line meaning they don’t have the physical presence of these bigger body types)
With that in mind and seeing how IQ and Noble run off the half back line do we add Maynard into the centre mix as well ?
His body type is well suited to it and we all would agree he’s as hard as a cats head and has a defensive side to his game
Could he be turned into a tagged aka Greenwood type
I also would love his big left boot clearing it out of the centre deep into our 50 before opposition could flood back |

I enjoyed that game. Over 100 points kicked, 9 different goal kickers, plenty of set shots from good angles and two posters. We can score big and "goals wins games"
Good spread of performers and exciting play. Love the youngsters who worked hard creating opportunities and kicking goals. Nice to see Howe again.
Thought Cox was okay and keeps his spot. I agree with Mudlark "cowardly behind the play bump" on Cox for bruised ribs which must be penalised at the tribunal.

Yep, he was definitely very sore after that incident. I am thinking that an umpire must have seen it happen as a free for "prohibited contact" was given to us immediately after it happened. But was a report forthcoming? Nup  |
