A man has been arrested after tackling comedian Dave Chappelle on stage during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Key points:
The incident comes a month after Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock over a joke during the Oscars
Rock was at Chappelle's show and said jokingly after the tackle: "Was that WIll Smith?"
The attacker was seen being loaded into an ambulance after the show
The man ran onto the stage at the show and tackled Chappelle to the ground, before being set upon by security

No indication yet as to motive, but some media have speculated by noting that Chappelle isn't overly popular with the Trans community over comments he's reportedly made.

Another example of someone being upset over comments and deciding to take physical retribution?

Perhaps this won't exactly be the biggest concern here for some, but photographs on another article of the aftermath of the incident indicate that the assailant was handled pretty brutally by the security team (as well as, according to some of the reportage, Chappelle himself). Knowing the way self-defence is interpreted in America, I doubt that any of them will face any legal difficulties over this, but in a just world they absolutely should. Once an attacker is incapacitated and no longer presenting any danger, any further violence visited upon them should be treated as assault and be punishable as such.

i watched a bit of doctor phil today, A young black girl lost control (not, speeding, drunk or drugged, good car, just lost control) in a town her mum said stay away from. She sat back in her car, the air bags had deployed so it was a fair smack, she was just trying to settle herself after the crash. at least 4 male cops dragged her out, cuffed her , dropped the knee on her back just like that dude who was a criminal, and slung her in the back of a cop car. she literally didnt do anything wrong.

ive been watching the innocence project, ive defended the cops heaps, but oh my god, its gobsmacking watching these shows. they literally have put people on death row who were completely innocent.

as for youngt and incarcerated, those poor girls have no chance in life, the stories about their parents, so called parents, terrifying

@David, don't dance around it, the security team beat the shit out of him. I haven't seen footage but I don't need to. That bloke knew full well what the laws are there, he lives there.

You run onto the MCG during a game you know you're going to get crash tackled and get fined. The bloke is lucky they tackled him and beat him up and didn't just shoot him as soon as he went on stage holding a (fake) gun (that had a concealed knife).

Ironically, if they had of just shot him they wouldn't have a case to answer. By beating him up after he was restrained they are open to a charge of assault.

Quote:
How does a court decide if you legally acted in self defense? They will ask the judge or jury to examine the facts of the case and look for three things:

You reasonably believed that you or someone else was in imminent danger of suffering bodily injury.
You reasonably believed that the immediate use of force was necessary to defend against that danger.
You used no more force than was necessary to defend against that danger.
California is both a “Stand Your Ground” and “Castle Doctrine” state.

“Stand Your Ground” means that if someone is threatening you or someone else, you or under no duty to retreat if you wish to claim self defense. You are allowed to remain present and defend yourself, no matter what.

“Castle Doctrine” is similar, and it states that you have no obligation to retreat if an intruder comes into your home. In fact, under California Penal Code 198.5 PC, a home intruder is always treated as a situation of “reasonable fear of imminent harm.”

Anytime a court considers a self defense argument, the judge or jury will have to consider all of the evidence in the case and decide whether or not an average person would think that the three elements above are true. They do not consider whether or not you retreated.

Not a definitive resource I know, just the first decent read on Google.
