It's not really disparaging in any way, and I think you can file away some of the language ("bird", "liquor license") as harmless ockerisms – I highly doubt the journalist herself would be offended. The issue (and contra P4S, this is more about how the world has changed since the 1970s than the nineteenth century) is that when you have a professional job, you're not really supposed to be going around talking about how bangable your colleagues are. Feel free to correct me, but I think it's likely that this would fall under workplace sexual harassment policy.

Whether we should be comfortable with a world in which chats with mates get leaked to the media and you have to watch every single thing you say in private lest it cost you your job is a different question. Putting to one side my usual views about this kind of thing, I think it's pretty obvious that the decision to send this to the media was not ethically motivated, didn't do the female reporter any favours (particularly if she didn't want it revealed to the world that she's gay), and, if their motive was purely vindictive and aimed at hurting somebody else, they got everything they wanted out of the situation with no negative personal consequences for themselves.

Do we want to live in a society where this kind of snitching is enabled and rewarded? I certainly don't.
