A little birdy tells me he will retire before the Windies tour...anyone heard any different. Personally, I reckon he should do the tour, but my bird was pretty sure.

I still think he has a lot of cricket left in him. I will be counted as saying PLEASE STAY ON WAUGH.

He is and always will be a champion.

How many times has he turned games around for Australia, he has been an inspiration and a battler.
That is what the Australian public love to see.

If your not bleeding Black and White, you don't truly support Collingwood!!!!!

I think Steve would possibly have retired after the fifth Test if the Aussies had won.

5/0 Against the old enemy
Most wins by a captain
Best ratio of win/loss by an Oz captain
Equal most games in Test cricket with AB
Last Test at Sydney
A quite incredible century
Equal number of centuries with Sir Don

There were plenty of good reasons ... BUT ...

.. losing his last Test as skipper would rankle, big time! He's stated, "I'm not looking for fairytales" when asked how he'd like to finish his career and, "It's up to the selectors"

He is, however, a great stats man and would dearly love to get that average back up over 50.

Did anyone consider that Steve Waugh may continue playing cricket because he actually ENJOYS the game ?? I know its a radical concept but some people play sport because they love the game.

Steve Waugh wouldn't keep playing simply to get his average over 50. If Steve Waugh keeps playing it will be because he loves the game of cricket.

Wash your mouth out, MrsTarrant!!!!

Stevie is still playing at a level far superior to many others, and I don't know who could possibly replace him. Whilst he is still playing well and whilst there are no obvious replacements, I say KEEP ON PLAYING, STEVIE!

I'm with Mrs Taz on this one. Although Steve Waugh has been great for australian cricket, it's time to bring some youth in. Steve himself, came into the team as a 20 year old when we were still struggling.
He had his opportunity and 156 tests is not bad. Give the kids something to chase, a Michael Clark at 21 himself is not a bad prospect, but will he get to play 156 tests? (Given he has the talent).... Not if Steve Waugh keeps playing, he wont.
One thing that we seem to forget, Steve Waugh has been successful as captain, Tubby Taylor led him to that. He walked into a side that was ready to peak, and any number of the other senior players in the side could have been given the role.
Of course he has talent as a captain and grit and courage as a batsmen, let's let him finish on the top.

Some recent captains' stats.

Mark Taylor captained 50 times for 26 wins: 52%
Allan Border - 93 for 32: 34.41%
Steve Waugh - 45 for 33: 73.33%

Australia have lost only 19 Tests from the 94 played under Taylor and Border!

Well to replace a champion you have to earn your spot. Has anyone banged down the door and commanded a spot ahead of Steve Waugh?? Lehmann was given a chance but failed. Michael Clarke will be a good player with time but he hasnt commanded a spot just yet.

I hope you guys don't treat Buckley the same way when he is in his twilight years

JLC I'm not treating Steve Waugh in any way. I'm just stating some facts.
In his last 15 Tests played he has scored 750 runs at an average of 34. Hardly Bradmanesque. In that time, Australia has won 12 of those 15 tests. Hardly on the back of Steve Waugh, I would suggest.

Has Lehmann done better ? Pfft i think not......has Lehmann looked like scoring a 100.....Pfft i think not

Michael Clarke will be a good player but you have to earn your stripes when replacing the Test Captain....
