Post subject: Keane not returning from Ireland | |
|
Just saw a post on Reddit saying Mark Keane won’t be returning after spending off season at home in Ireland.
These Irish lads are mammies boys 😀 _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

Putting family first beyond individual pursuits in this time of uncertainty, I applaud. To be labelled a 'mammie's boy' uncalled for. Thanks for giving it a go Mark - and wishing you and your family well. |

Does this mean we have a spot free on the list?
Hopefully we can replace him with someone Australian who has played footy for more than 3 mins of their life! _________________ Beware the swooping Magpie. |

Keane was contracted until the end of 2022. As a Category B rookie, he is unable to be replaced in the squad. |

Irishman Mark Keane has walked out on Collingwood, opting to stay in his home country. As a Cat B rookie, he can’t be replaced on the list for 2022. |

Charlie Dean, I would have thought. They both have very similar physical attributes, except only one of them had won the 2021 VFL best and fairest. |

Sad loss. He would have become a very good player for us if he had stayed with us. I can see it from his point of view. He played one game, usually against the opposition's best forward, then got dropped the next week. Moore went down and then Buckley/Harvey decided to play Madgen in the key defensive post instead of Keane. Players don't travel down from Ireland to play reserves football at Collingwood. In truth Keane was never given a fair go by the club, which continued to play over the hill players like Reid instead of looking towards the future. For some reason the Geelong - Collingwood qualifying game in 2020 was the turning point for Nathan Buckley who then decided to turn to the future. If Keane had been persisted with around 2019/20/21 I doubt he would have got homesick and decided to stay in Ireland. It's a lesson for the Collingwood Football Club which won't be repeated under Graham Wright. |
