It needs to be mentioned that Richmond had an extra day or two break than we did. Two days, they played the Friday and we played Sunday last round.

A lot to like for mine. We fought all day and never gave up.

However, we were never going to win the game with big man deficiencies at both ends of the ground.

I thought Cameron did ok in the ruck and Begg shows a good competitive edge, suggesting he could become a very good player. I'd keep playing him.

Lipinski was good, as was Crisp and Noble. Up forward Henry has a touch of class and should never be dropped from now on. Ginnivan kicks goals every week. We just lack a genuine key power forward.

Down back, Darcy Moore got taken to the cleaners, because his natural game is as an intercept defender, not a tight close down one. A fit Roughead would have been useful, but we desperately need to find a new full back, and pronto.

Both Daicos boys continue to do well. A shame that neither Bianco or Brown did much, from what I could see anyway.

Rudey, do you think our backline is a worry considering all the power forwards from Jeremy Cameron, Hawkins, Casboult (should have kicked 6 or more) and now Tom Lynch have pulled our pants down and kicked big bags against us?

Work in progress. At times today Collingwood’s direct ball movement was outstanding, only to break down inside the 50. Crisp was superb. Pendles steady. Need to take the half chances at goal and keep closer. The effort was there today. It always is.

Not much atmosphere at the G today. Bit surprising with 64k crowd but we were very outnumbered by Richmond fans.

Mates reckon 8 out of 10 were Richmond supporters today. Us Collingwood supporters are getting soft and afraid of the cold. Can’t blame them really, I had the heater on high!

To think Tom Lynch wouldn't even be Collingwood's highest paid player, hell if we signed him and then couldn't afford the overpaid one, we'd have spare room in our cap.

I really do think that the high scores being kicked against us atm are due to the fact that we are undertaking a totally different gamestyle. Afterall, we have mostly the same personnel as last year in defence. Due to the stagnant ball movement last year, we suffocated scoring, mostly our own, but also to some extent that of the opposition, so we were often able to minimise scores against. This was a Pyrrhic victory, because our score was invariably less than that of the opposition.
We are now learning a totally different, free-wheeling, corridor-centric game style which is also far more risky. It seems that the hardest part of carrying out such a transformation is to match the necessary defensive patterns with those of the new attacking patterns. I think Darcy looks at sea because the ball movement is now completely different from what he has been accustomed to for the last 3 years at least. Furthermore, other defenders are likewise playing in an unfamiliar way and there is a certain lack of co-ordination, and understanding of roles, which looks like Darcy being caught out of position etc.
Fly has also stated several times that we are not sure yet of what our top 22 looks like, personnel wise and role wise. In the game today, these issues were compounded perhaps by bold selections which, speaking in retrospect (which is always easy) might not have been the best. But we learn from that. What we have to look for each week is how well we draw the lessons from the previous week, and how our defensive structures improve over the course of the next month or two.
Clearly also we have personnel issues ( another key position defender to take over from Roughie, another big bodied mid, and a power forward to take the load off Checkers) which will be addressed in the draft.

New game style has left us vulnerable in defence. We need a proper full back. But our defensive structures tighten up as the season progresses.

We looked good when we could execute our game plan, but poor field kicking and goal kicking cost us.

I liked the fight we showed all day, never gave up, just a shame our skills let us down and succumbing to the tigs pressure at times.

I like where we are going, but we need more A grade talent pure and simple, do we trade? Or go to the draft? Both have pros and cons.

Had some time to reflect on the game.

Despite the disappointing result, I was happy with the way we played the game out. That could have been 10 goal loss if we completely threw the towel in the end so at least we fought it out until the end.

Richmond's bigger bodies were the difference today, especially at both ends of the ground. I think dropping Madgen was a mistake, but without Roughead and Dean who are both injured, our options at full back are limited.

We've all said it many times, but the search for a powerful tall marking forward needs to be a priority for our list management staff. Seeing Lynch tear the match apart just illustrates the importance of these types of players.

Crisp was excellent again. Noble has been one of the big improvers of the season, and really coming on leaps and bounds.

The youngsters in Ginnivan and Henry showed a lot promise again. Ginnivan wasn't heavily involved, but still managed 3 goals which is great. Henry made a good return after being dropped to the reserves for a few weeks.

Don't think Bianco did enough today, and he'll likely be dropped.
