The final scores actually made Whorethorn look better.

We could have won by 4 or 5 goals with better luck with the umpiring and kicking accuracy.

Hahaha, go Pies!!!

McCreery’s tackle right at the end!

Absolute gold.

Thought he was really good today. Led the team high tackles with seven.
When he tackles, they stay tackled.
Wasn’t long ago, he didn’t lay a tackle against the Dogs, so I didn’t have a problem with him being omitted last week but he was back to best today, so it now remains his spot to lose.

It would seem that's two weeks in a row now we've managed to escape with the win after wasting our opportunities in the first half.

Phew.

Exactly; whilst we did convert chances against Freo two rounds ago, to give us a decent buffer, the last two weeks have been diabolical.
We have been out-scoring opposition in first halves, but missing way too many gettable shots on goal in the process; this results in reduced scoreboard pressure, allowing said opposition to believe they are still in the game.

I wouldn't suggest trying our luck with such poor conversion monday week against Melbourne; such inept kicking at goal cost us twice against them back in 2010.

Anyhoo, the effort was there for most of the game today, save for a large part of the third term.
We are W7/L5, briefly back in the top eight and exceeding expectations; see how long until the bubble bursts.

There was no need to include MCInness at Brown's expense; idiotic selection decision, and now he has paid the price for selection stupidity.

Throw Carmichael straight into the deep end next week; don't fart arse around like they've done with Johnson, at the corresponding time last year.

Ash Johnson was injured when we selected him. Was never going to play in 2021. You’re probably thinking about this year, after he booted 4 or 5 in the VFL, was ignored for selection vs WCE even without Elliott and JDG and Adams, then proceeded to tear his hamstring in the VFL instead. THAT was the year’s most bone headed sliding doors selection bumbles.

Well, I thought he was ripping it up in SANFL in 2021, prior to his nomination and selection - was that not the case?

But yes, McRae was indeed in Buckley-type LaLaland, when he selected Wilson over AJ, for that WCE game, and then proceeded to get injured in the VFL.

How cool is on a Sunday night just enjoying a win. I agree we need a Key Forward, and a Key back and two mid-fielders but there is a lot to like about the coaching staff and football department right now. Notwithstanding the deficiencies, we are playing some good football. Ollie Henry can be anything and how much do you want the ball in the hands of a Daicos

I’m not saying I’m not happy and loving the way we are playing, I just think we need these missing pieces to go to the next level, and I’m loving the coach and game style. It’s so much better than we were playing last year.

Jesus if Ginnivan’s last name was Selwood we win by 3 goals. Horrible umpiring.

Just like Weightman at the scrags, Ginni is now seen as a stager but the umpires. He won't be getting easy free kicks any more.

Yep, and probably rightly so. He does drop his knees and that should just be play on.

He staged for the free that netted his first goal.

That's utter bullshit. There's no rule against dropping the knees and making yourself difficult to tackle. If you are prepared to cop the whack and get taken high the free kick should be paid.

Read my other posts. I was filthy at a couple of poor efforts at crucial times when he sat back expecting someone else to contest the ball (but no one else was there, and the hawks player got an easy ball), but overall his game was good. I’m not convinced he’s worth the mega deal though. I also said I hope he proves me wrong next week

Two players who deserve a mention -
Quaynor for his sure ball handling either at ground level or in the air, particularly in two of the last three weeks in the wet.
Murphy’s understanding of when to punch and when to mark. Doesn’t bite off too much and isn’t getting beaten in many one on ones ( for an inexperienced player who is neither tall or quick ) Reads the flight really well and leaves nothing behind at every contest.
They have both become very important pieces of an ever improving back six.

I did read all of your posts and I sure as shite don’t know where you’re coming from. I was more pissed off with Miochec kicking 1. 4. That snap from the out on the fullfree kick was pathetic. No full forward in the comp misses that!! Except “checkers”. And if you want to see players NOT getting to the contest take a closer look at McCReery. And a lot less fumbling. Jordy was the reason we got to 5 goals in front int he first half. If we trade him, what would YOU expect to get for him?? An early draft pick who may run around in the 2’s for a couple of years?

Excellent post.

One grab, clean hands were a massive advantage. Quaynor did this VERY well. Even Scott Emblebury had several 2 and 3 grabbers.

On Murphy - I didnt notice this during the game but upon reflection you are spot on. I did notice during the game how committed he is to his role and he has a very strong team first mentality.

Mudlark I said I was harsh on him and he played a good game except for some poor pressure/contest efforts. Noble would have had a crack if he was in Jordy’s shoes at those moments, and that says a lot about what a player is worth. That’s what I want to see from Jordy, the one percenters and not just the goals. Get in there and make the opposition earn it the hard way, son! PS have a look at the tackle stats, where’s Jordy sit today?

Magnificent. Loved that more than last week. Aside from Daics, who was BOG by a mile, the young players struggled in the wet and the forward line really missed Jamie, but Ollie Henry is just a big moment player.

There's no way the team would've won this game or last week before McRae. Fortuitous medical sub for the conditions, but Reef will be okay in time.

Darcy Cameron superb again, great game from Quaynor, de Goey good, senior players good, and the defence excellent again.

The Hacks really wanted that and the rain evened it up, so that was a top win.
