The verdict passed down bans Shane Warne from all cricket for 12 months to finish on February 10 2004.

All the details are still to emerge and an appeal is possible.

Reactions to this decision are already very interesting and will no doubt continue.

It seems a strange decision, given that the panel has stated 'guilty as charged' and 'no exceptional circumstances' were found.

I eagerly await their full statement to find out how they could give that verdict when a 2 year ban was said to be the MINIMUM penalty if found guilty of the charge.

The findings of the case may never be known to the public.

Personally i think Warne will appeal and beat the charge. But at the end of the day who is he fooling ??

Isnt this typical....teh press kill off the best spin bowler that the world has ever known,Dick Pound the Canadian,states that Warne gets what he deserved,and every one cries 'poor mouth' when he gets 12 months.
Look at it logically,he announced that he wanted to give the 1 dayers away to concentrate on tests etc. He dethrowned Peter Taylor some years back to be able to play the game.....dont you thingk that justification has come back to haunt him.
He admitted that he took the drug,so therefore he suffers the consequencies.
In other sports if you do the same thing then you suffer,so why not cricket.
What is the ban for AFL/VFL on a banned substance????

Well i think its obvious that Warne is guilty. But sometimes as long as you have a good lawyer and you create some doubt you can get off.

Even if he does get off when he appeals it doesnt change the facts of what happened.

So what are you saying, m8? Guilty of what? He's not denying he took the pill. And he's been found guilty of taking the pill. Having a good (very expensive) lawyer DIDN'T get him off, did it?

I think if the ACB don't publish the proceeding and evidence, there will be a bit of an outcry. They got Warne and M Waugh into more trouble hushing up the bookie business a few years ago. Hopefully the ACB has learnt a lesson there.

Again, until all the evidence/testimony is made public, it's a bit presumptious to cry fair or foul.

Peter, deTHROWNing a bowler is probably a good thing. Should have happened to Murali yerars ago!

Well, I'm not so sure about that, JLC. I think we could all easily imagine you having an argument with a speed camera.

Bookies? Was there more than one? Warne didn't say someone made him do it, did he?
Sex calls? Plural, m8? Know something we don't?
Joe the camera man? Didn't Joe own up? In which case the whole silly saga had nothing to do with Warney.

Sure Warne did the wrong thing and he isn't denying that and the fact he is saying his mother gave it to him isn't an excuse he is stating where exactly he got the pill from so I don't know why that's such an issue! If he didn't say where he got the pill from then we would be making an issue out of that! Leave the guy alone for god sake, he is only human and just because he is a sportsman does that give us a right to judge him? We all make mistakes and pay the price and that's what's going to happen to him I doubt any appeal will help but he can try! It is a damn shame that "weight, image and appearance" have almost ruined his career! Keep fighting Warney!

Just heard Darren Gough talking about drug testing procedure in UK (which I would reckon is identical to that in Oz). He said that you have the opportunity to fill in a form stating if you had thought you may have taken anything that would compromise the test in the last 48 hrs. He used the example of a flu pill or something like that. If Warne had the opportunity to declare his fluid pill, and didn't, kind of throws a different light on the pleas of 'accident'.
