"Usman Khawaja has revealed he initiated the discussion with Australian skipper Pat Cummins and urged him to do “whatever you need to do” to win the third Test against South Africa, even if it meant the star opener missed out on a major milestone."

^ He's got to say that - but I don't believe it for a second.

Maharaj has recovered from his groin injury (bad news for FTB Smith, who is his bunny, and Rabada's bunny too). ...

Maharaj and Rabada both had shocking series... But FTB Smith is still their bunny!! Laughing

Maharaj took only one wicket the whole series... and, yep, it was FTB, caught and bowled!!

Rabada got FTB in Brissy with a wide long hop rubbish ball that FTB could have just left!

For folks with amnesia, a reminder of how Rabada, Maharaj and co. destroyed FTB's defective technique last time:

[FTB's] last home & away series against S. Africa, he did very poorly. It's only 12 innings, of course, but that does include one not out to bump up his average. In those 6 Tests, his average is a measly 32.18.

Modes of dismissal:

LBW Maharaj (SLA)
caught behind Rabada
caught behind Rabada
run out
caught behind Abbott
caught off Maharaj (SLA)
LBW Elgar (SLA)

Marco Jansen got the ICC Emerging Men's Cricketer of the Year 2022 award.

Said he was "lost for words".

He won '... ahead of New Zealand’s Finn Allen, Arshdeep Singh of India and Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran.

It has been an incredible rise for Jansen, who just over a year ago was yet to play for South Africa.

The 2.09m-tall left-armer has become an integral part of the Proteas set-up where he has featured in 12 matches across all formats.

Klerksdorp-born Jansen has been particularly influential in the Test arena where he played eight matches and captured 36 wickets...
...

Jansen’s Test wickets came at an average of 19.02 with the paceman bagging two four-wicket hauls and one five-for (5-35), which came at The Oval in London.

He also recorded a maiden half-century (59) against Australia in Melbourne. Overall, he accumulated 234 runs in his 13 innings over the past year.

“Those are the two performances that really stand out for me,” Jansen said. “Taking my first Test fifer against England at The Oval, and hitting my first Test half-century against Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

“To reach those milestones at two of the most historic venues for Test cricket, those are memories I will truly cherish forever.”

In that Boxing Day Test innings, the ball he got out to, the gap between Jansen's bat and pads was literally wider than the three stumps. Shocked

Shows how unfair the pitch was to bowlers. Top scoring with a technique like that... Sheesh. Sad (So does Warner's meaningless 200. Warner's toast. Finished. To get 200 shows the pitch was unfair. If Oz play him in England, he'll be destroyed, just like in India.)

Great bowling performance by Cam Green to get a 1st-innings bag on that pitch.

Wherever Jansen is "emerging" from, he's coming out of there a long way behind the leader.

Rabada got his bunny, FTB Smith, yet again, in the ODI WC match Oz v. S. Africa!!

But of course that denied Maharaj an easy wicket! Laughing

How many times has Rabada got FTB out now?? It was just a harmless straight ball on leg stump. FTB was pinned in front LBW swiping across the line of the ball to legside.

Well, good thing for Oz S. Africa had to review. 'Cos if the on-field ump had given it, y'know FTB woulda reviewed and blown it! So the on-field ump's mistake saved Oz a review!!
