"According to sources close to Warner, who spoke anonymously because of the nature of the details, the opener’s lucrative short-term contract with the Thunder is worth approximately $400,000, paid by Cricket Australia and the BBL team.

With Warner available for only five matches, his pay packet works out to be $80,000 for each game

His ability to draw a crowd and improve television broadcast figures were factors in CA’s decision to chip in such a high dollar figure per match.

For context, Warner and other Australian stars receive $18,500 match payments for a Test."

Dunno how CA can pay part of Warner's slogathon salary. Sure, for CA, it's just business... But don't the BBL franchises have salary caps?? Question

So how is it fair to the other franchises if CA pays part of a player's salary?!?!

Thunder elected to chase.

If they lose, they miss out on the Finals.

"Steve Smith's swashbuckling Big Bash League cameo has been enough to earn him selection in the league's official team of the tournament.

The eight BBL coaches cast their votes for the best players at the end of the regular season, which were then compiled into a team that was announced on Wednesday morning.

The team featured no overseas players, with much of the best visiting talent leaving early to play in the UAE's International League T20 or the new SAT20 tournament.

Smith joined the Sydney Sixers after the home Test summer finished and played in five of a possible 15 games, including last week's qualifying final loss.

In that time, he averaged 86.5 runs, became the first man to hit a century for the Sixers - he ended up with two - and finished the regular season with the most sixes of any player in the tournament.

"That was some of the most incredible batting we'll probably ever see in Big Bash cricket in a four or five game stretch," Smith's Sixers teammate Jordan Silk said.

Smith was one of four players nominated by all eight coaches, alongside his fast-bowling Sixers teammate Sean Abbott, player of the tournament Matt Short and Perth Scorchers batter Aaron Hardie."

"Perth Scorchers have locked in another key pillar of their quest for a historic KFC BBL three-peat with Jason Behrendorff inking a two-year contract extension.

The tall left-arm swing bowler re-signs with the five-time champions after a career-best BBL|12, with his 21 wickets placing him among the tournament's top five bowlers, which included a match-high 2-26 in front of 53,886 fans in Perth's victory over Brisbane Heat in the final.

That was the 32-year-old's fourth Big Bash title having also played in their BBL|03, BBL|04 and BBL|11 triumphs, which he said was the main reason he signed on until the end of the 2024-25 season."
