^ Not that it matters much, Donny - but Williamson only managed 6.

Dunno why Southee did that.

There should be more night Tests. To counter all the dead pitches. Especially in Oz. But...

The problem is if the side batting in the day gets an unfair advantage. Already when Baz was NZ captain, there was talk about slogging away for the two early sessions and then either being all out or declaring to get the oppo in for the night session. Wonder if Baz as Pom coach was very happy. So again: Dunno why Southee sent England in.

The best solution is to have all three sessions at night!! But then the day would end at midnight. Will never happen!

Ah, the delightful vagaries of Test cricket.

Steve Waugh: (sic) "Win or lose the toss, you still need to play well"

Well, no point winning the toss and making the wrong choice.

e.g. Tim Paine sending England in, last Test, Ashes 2019. Still dunno what made Paine do that.

But England were strong faves going into this Test.

It's sad what's happened to NZ. As I said, looks like they've given up on Test cricket. Taylor, Watling retired; Jamieson injured long-term; Boult, CdG, Guptill taking slogathon money... They're trying to mount final challenges for the short-form WCs in the next two years. They've said that. But the next Test WC cycle also finishes in two years, right?!

NZ were lucky to make the WTC final. (Helped by Oz's dopeyness.) But they were clearly the best team in the world in seaming & swinging bowling conditions. They had the best batter for those conditions in Kane Williamson. And the best bowlers in Boult, Southee, Henry, Wagner, Jamieson, ... (An FTB fanboy's nightmare!!)

Kohli wasn't happy 'bout it being only one Test as final. But three Tests in those wet English conditions would have given the same result. NZ bowlers thriving. The majestic Kane Williamson guiding his team to victory. What India really needed was three Tests in India.

Wow... That's a lotta runs to get under lights...

BTW, an Oz record is about to fall. Sad

Warne/McGrath got 1001 Test wickets playing together.

Anderson/Broad reached 1000 in the NZ 1st innings.

Broad bowled both Conway (2) and Williamson (0).

2/19. 375 for NZ to win. 2 full days, after this one.
