insults dressed as humour are still insults! ive said it before and im sure ill say it again, start another thread called ill be an areshole about a dead person. |
You're reading far too much into it. The phrase I used wasn't intended as an insult – it's a mildly humorous euphemism (similar to "kick the bucket" or "croak").
If I'd wanted to say anything negative about her I would have – as you know, I have no interest in faux-respect for the dead – but I genuinely bore her no ill will whatsoever and I think you'd realise that if you search my posts from over the years. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

We went to local Platinum Jubilee events, which were a lot of fun, but I can tell you that kind of enthusiasm holds for QE2 alone.
I can see the irritation with Brexit rising sharply now, that's for sure. Without a reliable adult in the room all that's left are utter dimwits like Johnson and now Truss, leaving the country both friendless and devoid of leadership. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I'm only guessing here, but the term Rainbow Bridge is popularly associated with pets dying.
I had to look that up as I had NFI why Jo was upset, I thought you had been watching Thor movies _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

WTF? I'm distinguishing her from the rest of the nonsense. Most Brits I know make the same distinction; i.e., they like QE2 far more than the rest of it.
There's nothing weirder than Aussies trying to out-royal locals. |

calling Her "inoffensive as far as these things go" is just an under hand shitty insult, you just dont have the guts to say it. as my youngest used to say, if you dont have anything nice to say, SHUTUP!!!! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

personally id rather see William take the throne.
He and his beautiful caring Wife could drag the Monachy into the 21st century.
The Queen was special, its a shame the Harry had to drag Her through the mud. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

Now your just trolling
Harry isn’t royal, let alone the missus
No way Charles is his father
And no Diana wasn’t a tramp, the marriage was already over,
She stayed for duty _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Get a grip, for goodness' sake. It means I think hereditary monarchies are absurd, but nonetheless don't mind QE2.
Just in case people are confused, I'm the actual local who lives, works, studies, pays taxes, votes and partakes of society here _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I guess that’s the thing. I didn’t set out to upset you by merging the two threads, but even if I hadn’t done so, you don’t get to dictate how the discussion plays out. This isn’t a poster’s friend or loved one, but someone who was the head of state of all of us, me as much as you (one of the upsides of being born in one of the colonies; she’s our queen as much as yours). The thread is for reflecting on her legacy, and that’s going to inevitably incorporate some more critical opinions.
We certainly have no rule against insulting or taking the piss out of famous or powerful people after their death, but even so I think people have been relatively restrained and respectful here. I’ve seen much harsher sentiments elsewhere – because guess what, not everybody born under her rule was fond of the monarchy or the people who populated it. They are entitled to their say too. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

FWIW I'm not a royalist, I don't like hereditary monarchies, but I reckon Liz was one out of the box. Swoop echoed a lot of my thoughts in his earlier post.
Rather than a live of privilege, she considered it one of duty and service and behaved accordingly with a punishing schedule to the end under constant scrutiny.
Onya Liz, well played, RIP. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

From what I've read, it's likely we will. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |
