"Star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has made a striking comeback after injury with a seven-wicket haul that should sound the alarm bells for Australia with the Test series against India just a fortnight away.

The 34-year-old, whose inclusion in India's squad for the four-Test series beginning on February 9 in Nagpur has been subject to fitness, reported all was fine after he took 7-53 off 17.1 overs in a Ranji Trophy game that was his first match for almost five months following knee surgery.

Jadeja got through 41.1 overs across the two innings – taking eight wickets all told – including an unbroken 12-over spell on a turning wicket on Thursday in which he skittled out six batters as Tamil Nadu crumbled to 133 all out."

Jadeja is fit. (What was his injury?) Not that Jadeja is a great bowler. But he is SLA. And FTB Smith has a known weakness against the ball that spins away ('cos of his defective technique of swiping across the line to legside).

Injured right knee in a ski board accident. Shocked

He's been out since the Asia Cup 2022.

I guess he'll be rusty, even if fit... Will he have enough prep to destroy FTB's defective technique? Question

The Australian today says Jadeja is "roaring towards the first Test", taking 7 wickets in his return to first-class cricket.

I may have understated Jadeja's bowling before, too... He can prolly take a lot more wickets than just FTB Smith's.

"Scott Boland is in prime position to play his first Test abroad with Josh Hazlewood’s latest injury set to leave Australia a third fast bowler down for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener in Nagpur starting Thursday.

Hazlewood confirmed a left Achilles niggle caused in part by damp run-ups at the SCG for last month's Test against South Africa. He miss at least the first of this four-Test tour of India.

The 32-year-old joins pace partner Mitchell Starc (certain to miss the first Test with a finger complaint) and allrounder Cameron Green (unlikely to bowl until the second Test, also due to an injured finger) on the casualty ljst."

With those 3 quicks out, what's the Oz XI going to look like, for the first Test ?

Boland is an obvious, to partner Cummins, but will they risk Morris or play another spinner ?

It probably depends on what sort of wicket will be prepared. Don't be surprised if India selects just 1 quick and at least 3 spinners. Four, if Jadeja is ready to resume. Ashwin has opened the bowling in a few previous Tests. Yadav and Axar also come to mind.

Possible:

Warner
Khawaja
Labu
Smith
Head
Carey - or retain Renshaw, dropping Carey to #7 and leaving out the second specialist spinner.
Cummins
Lyon
Boland
Morris - or another spinner (Agar or Murphy)
Swepson

* Just heard McDonald is still hopeful of Green's inclusion - to bat at #6 (instead of Renshaw) and bowl some overs, leaving Morris out.

The BCCI control who commentates. They dumped Michael Clarke after his public argument with his gf. Shocked Last-minute fill-ins include Hayden and Mitch Johnson.

Sheesh... Losing your job for the crime of being assaulted in public by your girlfriend. Mind you, if what she accused him of is correct...

And the police gave Clarke a fine too. Shocked

If the BCCI do that, hope they also blacklist e.g. the racist Vaughan the next time England tour India.

Looks like FTB Smith may be Jadeja's bunny too.

Jadeja vs. FTB:

2013: 1/29 (119 balls)

2017: 3/122 (355 balls)

2021: 0/30 (60 balls)

And already once more in the 2023 series...

Disappointing opening from Cummins.

Rohit takes him for 5 fours, through square.

0/33.

On the other hand, Boland has 0/4 from 3 overs. Cummins 0/23 from 3.
