Sheesh...

So that is the record for Anderson/Broad.

But came a lot slower, I think.

Not got coverage, K.

4 bowled and an edge to the keeper suggest yes.

Stumps. 5/63.

NZ wickets:

1st - straight, full ball coming in to the LH. Hopeless gap between bat and pad and the ball (and a small truck) go right through.

2nd - a tiny bit of movement in - but, again, a big gap begtween bat and pad allows the ball to sneak through and hit top of off.

3rd - slight movement in, no footwork, ball hits top of off.

4th - slight away movement off the seam, no footwork and a slice across the lione were always sending that to slip.

5th - slight movement in, a gap between bat and pad (again) and the commentator says "you could drive a bus through that".

No footwork, no technique. A little movement but not enough to trouble competent batsmen in such quick succession. It certainlyu wasn't a 5/28 wicket.

NZ doing much better in the bright sunshine. They've only lost 5/63 today.

Oh wait - England won by 267 runs.

Two-day-late b-day present for Brook... (He's 24.)

Harry Cherrington Brook

5 Tests (before today), 8 innings, 623 runs at ave. 77.87 and SR 96.88.

3 ODIs, 3 innings, 86 runs at ave. 28.66 and SR 98.85.

20 T20Is, 17 innings (3 no), 372 runs at ave. 26.57 and SR 137.77.

(cricinfo)

He's good for England's 'Bazball' strategy. But clearly Test pitches way too flat. Harry's FC ave. is only 39.67...

BTW, an Oz record is about to fall. Sad

Warne/McGrath got 1001 Test wickets playing together.

Anderson/Broad reached 1000 in the NZ 1st innings.

Broad:

"I feel very blessed that I was born in the same era as (Anderson) so that I could bowl at the other end to him.

"I felt like it was the perfect dryness of pitch today for my kind of bowling. I could slam the ball into the pitch but it was still skidding and hitting the stumps."

'When England bowled, as Broad again demonstrated under the floodlights which caused the ball to swing, there was an effort to make every ball a wicket ball.

He brought the ball back at pace and late to both the left and right-handers.'

Brook went for 186 from 176 balls and the partnership ended at 302. England is now 6/381. Root is 130* and Broad 8*. Stokes made a quick 27 and Foakes went for a duck. Henry has 3 wickets, Southee and Wagner 1 (the latter for 112 at 5.66 runs per over because he bowls garbage) and Bracfewell was the beneficiary of some hilarious incompetence when Foakes fell over and out of his crease to be stumped off an innocuous ball that looked like it would have gone to fine leg if the 'keeper hadn't stopped it.
