I didn’t get home til 1/4 time from Qld, so I missed the rough stuff, saw a bit on the news, was it bad?
Was the booing loud?
Cant believe their couch whinged aboutu5 regardless. Sook! |
Thanks, Jo.
Sydney players tried to rough up and intimidate Nick at the beginning. He didn’t seem fazed despite the constant niggles from the likes of Papley and others. It largely dissipated as the game went on.
As I said earlier in the thread, I think the media has blown the booing of Franklin out of proportion and I don’t think it that was loud or pronounced. I think Papley was getting just as many boos, so I’m not buying the racial angle some in the media and elsewhere are pushing with this situation. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Their coach whinged about some booing, while singling put a 30 game star player for selective off-the-ball niggling and harassment. Interesting sportsmanship framework.
The AFL should pay an immediate free kick for off the ball targeting, esp if by more than one direct opponent. It should have no part in the game. |

What a phenomenal season, and as a first-year captain no less. Just so assured and calming in every facet of the game.
I still won't be comfortable until we've got the option of an extra tall tall (as opposed to Murph playing tall) to take some load off him and for games when the oppo talls are a handful (as with Checkers at the other end for attacking structure), but Coxy easing back in is a step towards that. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I'm with Mcrae. I hate the booing. Why would we boo an absolute champion of the game? Do we like it when Naicos gets booed for no reason? Interestingly, nobody much boos Dangerfield, Fyfe, etc. But somehow these uniquely talented Black men cop it for absolutely no reason - first Goodes, and now Buddy. Someone described him as a 'coke-head', but given the Ginnivan story, people in glass houses..
Appreciate the greats, even if they're not playing for us.
Still not convinced our forward line can win a flag unless our mids are far cleaner than what we've been in the pat month, but what can we do. We keep rolling, for now. Our real tests will be Melbourne, Geelong, Port and Brisbane, everyone else is basically rubbish. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. That was a solid win and once again we play the last qtr really well. It's not over until that final siren sounds.
Boing, booing the opposition to put them off the game, set shots for goals has and is a thing and I get some don't like it and others join in (mob mentality). I am hitting 60 and it was around when I was in single digits. I laughed at how Swans supporters tried to make it a racial thing. Pity the whole team got booed and there was the extra sauce with Paps. I feel sorry for Jason Horne Francis, I wouldn't want to play for Norf either, we should be cheering him.
Checkers with 5 was great but what a difference Mason Cox makes. To think we have Cameron, McStay, and Lipinksi to come back in is really exciting. |

I think our conditioning and fitness staff need a lot of credit.
We run out games so well and part of it must come down to fitness.
Fly mentioned our huge pre season and it seems to be paying off.
The belief is the other huge factor. |

I didn't like the booing of Buddy. He's been one of the greatest players of all time. Now he is on his last legs.
But, seriously it's not a big deal. It was rather pathetic of Longmanure to raise it at all. |

Yep, agree with you regarding Buddy. Can't understand why anyone would boo any champion of the game, just for being on the ground. I consider it a privilege to be able to watch such incredible players over the years.
I'm with Fly on the attitude towards booing individual players, unless they have performed some ars**hole act against one of ours on the day. (Of course, the one exception to this is Jim O'Dea, who for obvious reasons deserved to be booed until eternity).
I don't particularly like Longmuir, but it could be construed that he was sticking up for one of his players, ala Ken Hinkley with Jason Horne-Francis. On the other hand, it's extremely hypocritical of him, considering how he must have encouraged his own players to rough up Nick. |
