Farewell to the "Glenferrie Sphinx" as named by our beloved Lou Richards.

According to Lou, when asked about his coaching tactics for Hawthorn, the Sphinx replied: "Hmm, yes," followed by "Mmm.."

He was legendary for not giving anything away. We are lucky he retired or we would still be wondering...

Almost 39 years to the day that he gave the order for the worst act of premeditated criminal thuggery to have been witnessed on a sporting field.

No matter how much people think Jeans gave to the game it will never equal what he took from it.

Condolences to the family I suppose, but let it never be forgotten that he coached St Buggery on that infamous day when John Greening was bashed. :twisted:

Why is that relevant you say? Well Jeans was a copper and so was O'Dea. Many people believe the senior copper ordered the younger one to fix Greening that day.

For that reason I hope he does his karma as a Yabby. :P

Vale Yabby. I'm obviously aware of the Greening supposition but all I know of the family is that he was a top bloke.

Yabby played footy at Tocumwal with my father before he went to Finley, then onto St Kilda. My dad was great mates with his younger brother Lobster and my mum still plays bowls with his sister. The supposition about what he may or may not have said to O'Dea is just that, and it's out of character with everything I know about the family and the man.

O'Dea hit Greening, not Yabby. O'Dea deserves the contempt.

But anyway, I don't want to have an argument, just positing some positives about someone who did add a lot to football.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Condolences to Alan Jean's family.
Very sad to hear about his passing.

Growing up as a teenager in the 80's I was amazed at what he achieved at Hawthorn at the time.
A 4 time premiership coach deserves some respect, especially at the time of his death.

RIP.

The whole Odea business will always cloud Jeans career, he went along with Odeas life membership of that putrid club too, no i dont forget either. :?
