Why would Travis and his management even consider a one year deal with only a vague promise of more attached to it?I doubt either party would even consider the option. Collingwood needs to stop mucking about and sign off on the five year deal and just get it over and done if they want him.
And then Pendles, Daisy, Beams and Reid will want 5 yr deals too. Not a smart move imo. I genuinely think giving in to Cloke's demands for a 5 yr deal would provide a short term fix with long term pain. The whole management of our TPPs going forward could start to unravel.
I don't know. Not everyone wants 5 year deals. Beams signed for 3, not even 4. Pendles only signed for 1 in his last deal, or maybe 2. I don't think they'll all of a sudden demand 5 years. Maybe Cloke's just more loyal?

When a player has rival offers of 5 years and they'd really like that security, it's difficult for them to see why the club would hold back. This is what free agency does, it lengthens and inflates contracts. It's then up to the club to decide how much they want each player.

I don't think it's a bad thing either. There's no doubt that the power balance was too greatly in favour of clubs previously.
That would be because he took sever unders, I am actually suprised he signed on for 3 years at the amount he did.

Pendles signed for 2 for the same reason.

The problem with Travis is KPF tend to slow down at 29/30 especially contested ball wining KPP which is Travis' main bread and butter.

Also the club HAS offered a 5 year deal and the Clokes knocked it back!

4 years at 800k with a 5th performance based with a potential for 800k should he meet the KPI's or 550k if he doesn't is what is being reported.

So the 5th year with performance based clause that the club offered should be good enough but they want a 800k guarantee not if he has a poor year and would only get say 500- 600k.
Up the Mighty Mags 2016.

Assuming the parties are willing to accept $750-800,000 pa, the stumbling issue seems to be over it being a 4 or 5 year deal.

I'd offer Cloke a one year deal for $800,000 and then assuming he's in good form give him another 4 years on the same money starting in 2014. This way, he gets his 5 yrs on the money he wants but we don't actually commit to a 5 yr deal up front. It's a win win as far as I can tell.

The stumbling block will really be whether Demir wants to do a deal with Collingwood or whether he has already committed his son to leaving for more dough.
Brilliant!!!!
Then we could go through the exact same saga next year!!
Yippee!!!!

The way the players, including Pendles, went to Trav after he kicked the goals didn't look like a situation where he had announced he was leaving to me.

Things definately changed this weekend. It was just so obvious... after he kicked his first he was flooded by team mates.

That hasnt happened in months.

Coincidence that it occurs the weekend he returns to his best form in months...?

Doubt it.

Something has changed. He's even back on Twitter

There was an obvious shift in group dynamics on Saturday night compared with recent times. The positivity towards Travis could be a 'sign' he will stay OR it could also be that it was addressed during the week and whether he is staying or not is irrelevant right now. Point is, he's part of the team & needs to be supported - He behind him!!

Not wanting to be hopefull and see things that are not there, kept my thoughts on this quiet but something definately changed.
Could just be the boys in the week were told to move on but looked like there was more to it.

You can be told to move on but if the conditions haven't changed it won't be an enthusiastic effort.. they looked genuinely enthusiastic to me.. dare we dream?

IF HE did sign this week, pre game, it would give the club an enormous lift, possibly enough to beat the so called invincible Dawks !

If we can isolate Trav this week he just may massacre Shoenmakers. Someone needs to go to Gibson and make him accountable.

Ratten sacked. Malthouse appears as future Carlton coach. Cloke decides he doesn't want to play under his old coach. Problem solved. Form returns.

Whatever fired him up I hope he can fire it up against Hawthorn and boot another 5, or even more.
