A couple of points: Caro broke the story but wouldn't elaborate because it was another journo's story. Over night things changed, just like they did with the Hird sacking story. Caro is one of the only journos still sticking with her original view that Collingwood was right to ask for Pick 5 and a good player. I note that @thelistmanager and @barrettdamian were saying all along that Pick 5 & 25 was a fair trade.
Collingwood tried hard to facilitate the trade and it very nearly worked. We would have got Levi Greenwood, Varcoe and picks 5 & 25. Think the deal fell over when North baulked.
I want Collingwood to now trade Beams to another club, but not Brisbane. yesterday the attitudes eminating from that club bordered on disrespectful. Both Leppitch and footy boss Peter Schwab were smart arses and basically suggested they would still get their man.
Collingwood will be a laughing stock in trade terms if this eventuates. We need to work with other clubs to get Beams out in a way that benefits us. The Club was very measured all through the trade period and appeared to be supporting Beams, whereas, privately they would be terribly disappointed in his actions, particularly after Copeland Trophy night.
I want Beams gone; he has shown no loyalty and has thumbed his nose at his teammates and the club. Melbourne? Let's do the trade. GWS? Yep do it. Gold Coast? Why not? Any club is OK by me........barring Brisbane.
The inner bitch would love to see him wallowing in shit at St Kilda though.

After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing!

I can't believe I'm going to do this but.......... ^^ThisDefender wrote:I'll be pissed if we deal with Brisbane full stop, they had their chance, they didn't respect our deadline, how could we ever be taken seriously again if we make a deal with them now? It's just not on.
I'm proud of the stance we've taken.

Would we discount his old coach? I'm sure MM would love to get his hands on him, but I cant think of one young player there that I'd like in return.Neil Appleby wrote:A couple of points: Caro broke the story but wouldn't elaborate because it was another journo's story. It's the single club I don't want him going to.
I'd vomit until the start of next season.

If he stays it's not irreparable. Journos just love drama.
O'Keefe wanted out of the Swans and won a Norm Smith there a few seasons later.
This time last year Dusty had walked out on the Tigers and they were happy to see him go.
Brad Sewell was all set to join Melbourne until the Dees pulled the plug. Stayed and played in 2 premierships.
As I said previously. This was a massive fishing expedition on Brisbanes behalf. They thought a massive offer and the compassionate card was going to get us to except less than market value. They were wrong.
Time we all moved on

It's because we've all 'semi-agreed' to stop talking about the coach (for now ) helps that we are all mostly on the same page about the 'Beams' situation...September Zeros wrote:No Neil, there's a little inner peace on nicks at present and it's nice.Neil Appleby wrote:I can't believe I'm going to do this but.......... ^^ThisDefender wrote:I'll be pissed if we deal with Brisbane full stop, they had their chance, they didn't respect our deadline, how could we ever be taken seriously again if we make a deal with them now? I agree as well, the club has done a great job with these negotiations.
In some circles we are being seen as the ones who have made no concessions. Not true. We agreed to accept a deal which included no players from Brisbane. The Lions were still so greedy that this needed to be a complicated 5-way deal, which fell over, rather than a simple exchange.
So instead of:
Beams for 5, 21 and 25 (maybe we could have thrown in 30 or 48)
We got this deal where the Lions easily get the best of it. It's 5 + 21 for Beams which is well under value and 25 for Christensen also under value.
Geelong: Clark, 30, 48
Melbourne: Lumumba
North: 25
Brisbane: Beams, Christensen
Collingwood: Varcoe, Greenwood, 5, 21
I'm just glad the Cats killed this deal.
