But how is this one? And bare with me.....

Beams to Lions.

Merritt and pick 5 to Dees. Harry to Dees.

Pick 3 and 23 to Pies (Melb). Pick 25 to Pies (BL).

Pick 23 and 30 to North for Greenwood and Mullett.

Clark to Cats. Pick 21 to Cats (BL).

Varcoe to Pies.

Pick 25 (Coll) to Cats.
--------------

Lions lose pick 5, pick 21, pick 25 and Merrett. Gain Beams and Christensen.

Pies lose Beams, Harry, pick 30. Gain pick 3, Levi, Mullett, Varcoe.

Dees lose pick 3, pick 23, Clark. Gain Pick 5, Harry, Sause.

North lose Levi and Mullett. Gain pick 23, pick 30.

Cats lose Varcoe, Christiansen. Gain pick 21, 25 and Clark.

Look it's not the worst idea I've seen but it would depend on quite a few things.

Brisbane being willing to give up Merrett as well as the current picks of 5,21 and 25 they had hoped to land both Beams and Christensen with.

Melbourne would also have to be prepared to go from pick 3 to 5 which would depend a lot on how likely the see GWS selecting Wright at 4.

Who knows if they have an interest in Merrett and may require pick 23 in the deal involving Trengove anyway.

Personally I'd rather keep 23 and take it to the draft with pick 25 going to North for Greenwood and 30 for Varcoe.
I think the Lions would be ok with giving up Sause.

Looking back at that scenario, I think Melbourne would want something else. A 2nd round pick would fit, but where does it come from? Also you're right about needing it in the Trengrove move.

I want Mullett. But he does seem like the loose part of the trade that could be removed to free up pick 30. (North do want a pick around 30 to get Cooney. Could 48 get them Cooney?)

I don't care if the Britons offer pick 5-Rockcliff-Redden and Aish, they passed the deadline, we'll look like idiots if we trade with them now.

Really? We'd look like dickheads of we passed up your example. Prime dickheads at that.

If they bettered their offer like you've suggested we can then say they have increased their valuation of Beams more akin the value Collingwood placed on Beams.

Given Brisbane have reconsidered their undervaluation of Beams's worth that now more closely approximates Collingwood's view of Beams's worth then Collingwood could say it would be remiss not to assist young Dayne to get closer to his ill father & in this new found light of cooperation Collingwood too can be flexible. (of course we would be remarkably big winners in your scenario).

Collingwood never said the lions only had until Friday to do the trade. What we actually said was that we would give the Lions until Friday to get the trade done, since that's where Beams wanted to go, but after that timeline we would consider offers from other clubs. So now the Lions are potentially competing against other clubs for his services. We are now no longer dealing exclusively with the Lions. However, they are still the club most likely to get him, assuming they can satisfy our demands.

^^We did say we've ceased negotiations. That doesn't necessarily mean we've completely ruled out the possibility of a trade with the Lions though.
Collingwood statement wrote:Unfortunately, this was not forthcoming. Collingwood's position from the outset was that a good player and an early draft pick was a fair return, although the club did consider the possibility of a combination of draft picks. Even this failed to produce a solution.

"Now that negotiations with Brisbane have ceased, Collingwood is free to pursue other opportunities involving players and picks. The club remains open to offers from other clubs for Dayne, if that is his wish.

And remember, if we try to trade Beams to any other club... he has to agree, eg. we can't just dump him at Melbourne, etc unless he agreed.

^^Which is one of the things that is wrong with the AFL's player movement rules. We shouldn't have brought in free agency without also bringing in free trading.

Anyway, if Beams sees that he can't get to Brisbane I think it very likely he'll consider going somewhere else.

In the end though, my feeling is the deal will ultimately be something like the 5-team trade that failed earlier. We did already agree to it, so it's not going to take much to get it over the line.

True but therein lies the problem. They aren't willing to give up a player [Redden, Aish, etc] to meet our needs. So **** them we do a deal with someone else who will meet our needs.

I'm starting to think GC pick 8 plus player X for Beams.

How good is X? Do you have a bio?

Is X minus H a positive for us?

Actually the equation I asked was wrong:

Should be

(X-B=8+C) + (H-21) + (G-V +30) or something like that

Ah, I see. Might help if I read your post properly huh.
Pick 8 + X = Beams.

OR ...

Pick 8 and 15 for Beams. This might happen if Christensen went to GC and Geelong get player X from GC.
No?

can someone explain why there is a Beams thread on this trade board AND the General discussion forum, when all other threads get moved around to one or the other?
