Crisp had 22 possessions and kicked a goal against us the last time we played them, which they won.
At 190cm and 89kg he looks like the type we want. With Rockliff, Redden, and Rich the Lions are relatively strong in the midfield - just because he hasn't broken in yet doesn't mean he's no good. If they get Beams it'll be even harder so possibly the Lions figure they can spare him and he deserves an opportunity elsewhere.
I'm just saying maybe. He's only 21, you could argue that from pick 85 rounding up 18 games in his first 3 years is pretty good.
His six games this year were the last six games i.e. he didn't get dropped once he got in. He kicked three goals against Adelaide and had 20 disposals in four of those games, 15 and 16 in the other two. He took ten marks against Melbourne.
When he was named for his first game this year in Round 18 the Lions had lost their last four matches. In Round 18 they defeated Gold Coast, they beat Melbourne in Round 19 and Collingwood in Round 21. Crisp's win/loss for the year is 50/50, a fair bit better than his team's.
I think I've talked myself into accepting 5, 25 and Crisp for Beams.
Better go watch some videos

What we said we would. Keep him on the list.swoop42 wrote:If Beams flat out refuses to go there then what can we do mate?Johnno75 wrote:Although the GWS/Bulldogs deal is no where near a done deal, I would be gutted if the dogs got 4 and 7 for Griffen and we could only get 5, 25 and a fringe player for Beams.
Let's wait and see what the deal is. If we're somehow able to keep 25 or get another pick in the 20s it's not so bad. I did expect it would come to this - us accepting a pretty ordinary deal - given that we were close to completing a similar deal last week. It's still disappointing though.
And on Crisp: he certainly has the physical attributes and has played some good games in his career so far. Still, he was a very late pick (40 in the Rookie draft) and hasn't played a lot in three years. That's pretty close to the bottom of the barrel and not much of a sweetener.
But who knows, maybe he is ready to take the next step and our recruiters are positive about his potential impact.
Well done boys!
^You've stated previously that you don't want Beams at Collingwood next year.
Have you softened your stance?
If he wont allow us to trade him to GWS/GC then we are left in a very difficult position.
I'm hoping Brisbane send Crisp to Essendon and us our pick 30 and we get pick 20 in return.

^^No. I'd prefer a deal were done. If we don't get a good enough offer though I'm happy for the club to make the tough call.
I don't think the proposed deal (or at least certain versions of it) is bad enough for us to just walk away. Unfortunately it is at the lower end of what we could have expected.

It's equally difficult for both Beams and Collingwood, but the Pies will be around long after Beams retires. I reckon he'll back down and accept a deal with the Gold Coast, if they can afford him.swoop42 wrote:^You've stated previously that you don't want Beams at Collingwood next year.

They're actually a better option for him anyway. Closer to dad and a premiership. The only thing they don't have is his brother and really, how many games does Claye play for the Lions? He wouldn't be there if his name wasn't Beams and he'll be lucky to get a game with his brother taking another spot.
Another issue is that we can't negotiate with Brisbane anymore while retaining any credibility. We chose a path and if we don't stick to it now, we lose more than Beams.

Don't know enough about Crisp to judge that call, just know I don't want Varcoe.swoop42 wrote:Me three.jackcass wrote:Me to.woftam wrote: Lumumba has already nominated Melbourne as his preferred club. I'd rather North take Varcoe & we have a pick instead.
If it has to be Crisp then I don't want Varcoe.

Not too sure how much Crisp sweetens the 5 & 25 offer, appears that a 3rd or 4th round pick might be enough to get him.
I'm changed my mind a little on Varcoe, well at least to the point of preferring him more than Crisp now if I had to choose.
Maybe it's just because I subconsciously want the Beams to Brisbane trade to fall over (LOL) but with so many promising young players already looking for more opportunity next year his experience might be more beneficial than just another young player whose true value is hard to gauge.
I really don't want both and would prefer a pick in the 20's in place of one of them.

I've got a bad feeling that these 3 trades will go through tomorrow -swoop42 wrote:I'm a bit worried though that the club have been very quiet over the weekend and haven't got on the front foot and used social media to squash the rumours of this supposed new deal for Beams.
Beams for 5, 25 and Crisp
Lumumba to Melbourne, Clarke to Geelong, Varcoe to Collingwood
Pick 25 to North for Greenwood.
And somehow we'll also lose picks 30 and 48 along the way.

Well if that's the case and we end up with 5, 30 and 48. I wonder if the Suns would trade their first two picks(8 and 15) for our 3. If they would, I'd actually be satisfied.AN_Inkling wrote:^^30 and 48 were to get Christensen. In that deal we also received pick 21. I doubt we'd need to give up those picks now that we're only getting Crisp.
I think one thing that might have been a little forgotten in all this is that we've made a commitment to Greenwood and he to us and I'm sure him and North would like to get the trade done so they both know where they stand.
North might be waiting for the pick to use in another deal and whilst that alone shouldn't make us rush any deal for Beams we think is inappropriate it's respectful and professional to not keep them hanging for to long either.
For me tomorrow is the day the Beams deal is either done with Brisbane or we know for certain no deal will be done with Brisbane.

I just feel we've been worn down on this and collectively talked into a sewer trade.
It's started out as pick 4 and and established Brisbane mid (aish, redden, rich, Mayes) swapped for beams.
In my eyes this is the equitable trade.
But now (thanks to the afl's shitty compo pick for frawley) it's pick 5. I don't think we should forget this downgrade. And we shouldn't be letting Brisbane forget it either. Straight off the bat that degrades the initial deal we would have been happy with.
Then poeople started warming to 5, 21 and 25 in a swap for beams and we started to reluctantly accept it, in fact didn't the club actually put that on the table?
Most again would have been just ok with this scenario
Now we are warming to the idea of 5, 25 and crisp who was what, pick 40 in the rookie draft. So picks 4, 25 and 40
All I see is this deal drifting further and further away from what we wanted and closer and closer to a win for the Brisbane lions and dayne beams.
All I want is what's best for the Pies.
Brisbane have targeted arguably our 2nd best midfielder and one of the comps most elite, offered him big money and in return for their underhanded theft of dayne they offer us shit, slightly less shit, and then a deal that just resembles shit.
All the other trades that Brisbane are trying to involve here are just masking the fact they want beams for a steal.
It all stinks to me right down to daynes disappointing actions himself and I'll be buggered if I'd be dealing with Brisbane now that the deadline has passed.
Call me stubborn, but why should we lose on this deal. They want someone who's contract we own. So pay up Brions plain and simple for mine.

North probably could have had pick 30 for Greenwood by now if they were really desperate to get it done. They're hanging out to see if we can get a better pick, but if all other deals fell through, I'd expect them to take pick 30 for him at the last minute. Levi probably knows this as well.swoop42 wrote:I think one thing that might have been a little forgotten in all this is that we've made a commitment to Greenwood and he to us and I'm sure him and North would like to get the trade done so they both know where they stand.

Not sure about your Brisbane prediction either. We'll see tomorrow if we're going to take this Crisp deal perhaps, but if we don't, then I think the Lions still have until the end of the week to offer Aish and pick 5 without negotiation. Not that I expect them to after all this, but it's possible.
