What's with the Aish and Danger lovefest?????

Post by droversdog65 »

Don't get me wrong - any team would love them on the list but for Collingwood at our present position??

I think not.

Just look at our midfield at the moment, both would complement it in their own ways I'm sure but every midfield is a question of dynamic balance and content. We have enough established and second tier - not to mention youngsters coming through.

What we really need to be concentrating on are KPF's.

Hine incorporated - pick up 3 or 4 top liners in the next couple of drafts - surely one or two will make the grade.

Cloke isn't getting any younger and KPF's are hard to find.

Of course he is thommo, but that isn't the issue.

The issue is, do we need him?

He isn't a screamingly good raw recruit anymore and we have a number of highly talented youngsters coming through.

Now if we were challenging for a flag this year it would make sense but as we aren't I just believe its gilding the lilly.

Especially when we need KPF's SOON.

I agree, our key position stocks are in need of additions more then our midfield is.

I'd target the Suns, they are falling apart up there, could get a Tom Lynch or a Sam Day at a decent price.

JW I'm not bagging either player nor gainsaying anyone admiring their very obvious talent . . .

BUT . . .

Chasing them when we already have plenty of young talent coming through and are getting to the end of options with our KPF's and with Cloke getting toward the end is absolute madness.

We need a couple of drafts looking for some good KPF prospects RIGHT NOW

On the other hand, what's the harm?

WPW the harm would be having surplus midfield stocks and a bare cupboard in the forward line.

Adding Dangerfield to our ever improving talented young list would make us a genuine top 4 prospect next year IMO and from there a flag is within reach.

Who knows if we're even a realistic chance but I'd be disappointed if we didn't have a serious crack.

Miss on him then I think we are in a position to bundle up our first and second round selections and go fishing.

We've turned over our list significantly these last 3 years and have a host of top draft picks waiting in the wings so we can afford to use our early picks this season on a player already at an AFL club and somewhat established.

DD, I couldnt agree with you more.
Fast forward to 2017 when we hope to be the real deal and at the moment we look like having a forward line of QUALITY talls consisting of a 30+ year old Cloke and a 20 year old Moore. We need the injection of a third quality tall into that mix by 2017.
Yes, we could do with a Danger or a Treloar but not if it meant we had nothing in the bank left to bring a credentialed KPF into the team.
We are currently leading contested possesion in the AFL without even having seen greenwood, freeman or degoey yet. Grundy and witts will naturally continue to develop and our clearances will improve with it.
If we could secure an established KPF in his early to mid twenties by 2017, I would happily take that over Danger or Treloar right now. ( Fyfe, im not so sure : )

Yep, KPPs the major priority for our list, particularly as it appears likely we'll lose Keeffe. Got Moore, Marsh, Cox and Gault developing but another couple behind them would be more than handy longer term.

Frost, Oxley, Langdon, Marsh, Keeffe were all low cost defensive additions.

Forwards are harder to find but you'd hope Moore with all his talent will end up there and Gault is still a work in a progress.

Hard to see GWS willing to part with McCarthy and not sure what other young key forwards are out there who we could target and have a smidgen of a chance obtaining

If Carlton go on a fire sale any interest in Henderson?

He's much better than what he showed the other night and in a strong side for the first time in his career I could see him being an effective foil for Cloke and give us extra coverage in defence.

Really we should be looking to play Reid forward again if both Frost and Brown are the side.

Interesting comment swoop.

Im fairly confident Henderson becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season. He can play and is a bit of a swingman if required.

You only have to be over 6' 4" these days and you automatically pay overs for the privelidge to bring them into your club anyway.

PS If i knew Reid would be ok in the long run, i would be feeling a lot better about our future KPP stocks

Henderson would be a more than handy pickup as a FA, is he actually eligible this year?

Still like to draft a couple. Would allow them to develop at VFL level while we've still got Cloke.
