Brayden Sier

Post by Presti35 »

Hey all.

Just wondering where Sier is at. Living overseas, its very hard to get a grip on who is coming along (or not) in the VFL.

I really miss going to the VFL matches.

Is he any chance of getting a senior game in 2016?

Will not play seniors in 2016 unless we have a 2014-esque injury cataclysm or he really comes on out of sight in the second half of the year.

Neither is likely...

I wouldn't say that.

But he probably will be a slow developer. I think they see/saw him as a 3-4 season project, to be worked on down in the reserves while the club began climbing up the ladder again into finals/premiership contention (obviously that hasn't come to fruition).

Way too early to tell if he'll be a bust or not. Just right now, though, he has only been able to compete in a meaningful way against VFL-listed/stand alone midfields (Blues on the weekend, Port in Round 1, Coburg in the pre-season). Against the young/depth mids on AFL lists, he just hasn't been able to get his hands on the ball. That should correct itself as he matures and develops, but we won't be seeing him on the MCG for quite some time to come...

I may be incorrect, but I believe he was very young when drafted, he may have only just scrapped in as being eligible last year.

We have to cough up a couple of early picks this year as part of the Treloar and Aish deals, pushing us out of the first couple of rounds in the draft.

So I'm guessing the recruiting department may have identified him as a potential first rounder this year and decided to select him now as compensation/contingency plan. A year in the system developing and reap the rewards a year or 2 later.

Possibly. I do recall the club saying a similar thing in regards to Jamie Elliott.

As far as next years picks;

We should still have a 2nd round pick. Our first (Which looks to be top ten now) will go to GWS.

We got a 2nd round pick from the Saints for Freeman, which we forwarded on to Brisbane for Aish.

So it's only going to be that first pick we are really missing. Our new first pick, which will be in the second round, has not been traded.

Sier would have stayed in the TAC cup system had he not been drafted due to his age. Based on his progress he was consdiered a strong change to go 1st round in this years draft.
He played limited TAC cup last year and was very unfot when he arrived.
Has plenty of upside. Will come down to his motivation and mental strength as by all accounts he has the ability and skill

Sounds very promising. Especially if he was a chance to be a top 18 pick this year.

Hopefully he turns into a real coo!

Only stayed for the first half of the VFL yesterday and he looked okay. Certainly not displaying the form that'd see him playing seniors but okay. Happy for the kid to learn his craft in the VFL, certainly has the tools.

He is a project player.

He has very good skills & is a good size.

Positives:

1. Skills by foot & hand
2. Can burst forth from packs in a strong way / clearances
3. Was footy captain at Marcellin College, he knows how to play
4. Does not subscribe to "Leading Teams" school of management
5. Does not send nude pictures of his penis on social media thinking that is a jolly good idea

Negatives:

1. Physically unfit relative to others (we knew this at the time of the draft)
2. Not up to it at the moment but getting better slowly, incrementally.
