Regardless of how it is construed, the comment from Ed was unnecessary and insulting.

I don't think it was sexist at all, or even close to advocating violence against women. It was an attack against a person, not against a sex or race or class of people. So some people need to get off their high horse and get a grip.

That said, it was a shit attack on a fellow human and I am disgusted that Ed didn't apologise straight away.

Daniel Harford made a good point. If you'd be happy to say it again, fine, but if you wouldn't say it again, then you should apologise. Would Ed say this again?

BUT, it was about the ol Pies hater female jouro Caro, who now turns it into some violence, race thing, and all hell breaks loose. and the dumb media and pollies run with it, now its a Collingwood hate diatribe. Words fail me.!
I would've been outraged if he said those things about Robbo.

Anyone who thinks I went to far asking for Ed to be sacked should ask themselves if they would appreciate the same words said about any Woman in their lives...
No I didn't think so
Violence is not just action
Words can and usually do begin most violence..
If you think it was just boys being boys then we are still in the bad old days..

OH for chrissakes, as I said previously, if he said it about a male journo like Robbo, nobody would have batted an eyelid, not even Robbo himself, to connect it with domestic violence against women, which we all condemn, is utterly insane. It was an off the cuff joke, and by the way, how come it took a whole week for this rubbish to surface.

It's not that article Caro. It's the fifty articles you've written over the last ten years which attack individuals and are not based on any facts but set out to bring people down.
Exactly. There has been no consideration given to the context of this banter....that Caro has basically been maliciously targeting Eddie (and Swanny) for years now. Why was the conversation about that particular woman and not some other footy journalist? That seems to have got lost in the hysteria.

Yes, I believe they should have refrained from suggesting the person be held down under water... that is suggestive of violence against said person. However, it wasn't even Eddie who said that, but Danny Frawley.

The comments were a joke. Quite a funny one at that.

It is an insult to the actual victims of violence that people are more outraged by this than they are by a woman being beaten with an iron bar during a robbery.

Yet the headlines tomorrow will be all about a harmless joke told on radio. The discussion at workplaces tomorrow will be about a joke told on radio. Columnists will fill pages, talk-back will be inundated with outrage, outrage so deeply and sincerely held that will be gone by the afternoon. All of it impotent, pointless and counter productive.

And why? Because the joke was told by celebrities.

Be angry if it makes you feel better, but don't kid yourself that your attitude does anything to end violence against women. You're just creating victims where there are none, and leaving the real victims to their own devices.

The country grew up and realised that it not really cool to make fun of people because people have feelings.

Eddie does a lot of great things, but he also does some really stupid things too.
Seriously, in a thread on politically correctness you drag up an archaic term that hasn't been considered acceptable for decades to describe people with disabilities...

And are we to blame Eddy for all the sins of the Australian community? Don't recall him labelling anyone a "spear chucker" (sic) or advocating in support of domestic violence.. He's human, he's made some mistakes, let those among us who haven't be the first to cast a stone!

I'm also not sure about what circles you move in that any of these are in any way OK.
I know you don't like me, and I don't really care, but now you're embarrassing yourself by trying to find something that isn't there.

I used these three examples as to what was once acceptable. It wasn't that long ago that aboriginal footballers were called spearchuckers. People made fun of the disabled by calling them spastics and mimicking them and it was even acceptable for husbands to beat their wives.

So what happened to Australia? We took a stand against this shit, like we should take a stand against the MMM crew insulting someone on the radio.

Similarly, I wouldn't think it acceptable for Caro and her 3AW crew to joke that someone should have held Eddie under water when he slid down into the ice pool.

Turn it up, if someone had said that about eddie, he just would have laughed it off, and told the culprit who said it, too get stuffed. end of story. 8)

To PnC above

that's fine, but others would have very right to think that what is said is inappropriate. Just because the intended target is not offended, it does not mean the comment is not offensive.

Damn straight mate, but more so for silly abc radio taking talkback and turning It into a bash Magpies segment, with one old fool saying "Eddie is rubbish and so is his team" that really grinds my gears bigtime. :x

Yes, but thing is mate, caro can give it out in spades on a personal basis, she has been gunning for eddie for years, but when a tiny bit comes back on her, even in jest, she turns into a shrinking violet. Journos are supposed to be tough cookies, comes with the job.
