Just watched The Chaser Election Special, which showed Tanya Plibersek talking about upgrading the Barton Highway between Canberra and Yass. The preceding piece was about the Member for Herbert (QLD) Ewen Jones. At the end of the Plibersek piece they photoshopped Jones crossing the Barton Highway and getting bowled over by a car.
I assume there will be a national scandal over the next few days about The Chaser showing a desire for Jones to be run over and killed.

Do you think Eddie did anything wrong whatsoever Rudeboy in your opinion?RudeBoy wrote:Let's stop all this BS. I'm fed up with this PC obsession by well off, well paid and highly educated f*ckwits. Under the guise of caring for people's feelings, this Feminazi group make a massive amount of noise about a stupid joke, while sitting back as dozens of Indigenous women are murdered each year in drunken/drug fueled assaults in completely broken communities. What are these 'do-gooders' doing about this?
Fact 1 - Wilson's whole media career is based on her being an attack dog, exposing and criticising people in the AFL.
Fact 2 - She is despised by most footy fans and club officials.
Fact 3 - Because she is a woman should not prevent her being the subject of a stupid joke or of out and out ridicule.
Fact 4 - If the same joke had been made about Robbo, then no-one would bat an eye. In fact, after his disgusting drug 'expose' I recall Eddie mentioning something like "there's a few Collingwood players who'd like to rearrange his face for him if he wants to drop in to the Holden Centre". Was there a furore over this? Certainly not.
BTW, I'm an inner city lefty with a PhD, so not all of us are infantile and pathetic PC numbskulls.
Your fact one is opinion.
Your fact two is not a fact again but an opinion. Lets treat it as fact, so she is despised? so what. So is Eddie.
Your fact three is an assumption that a woman was being treated differently than a man. I disagree with the opinion not fact although I do think Caro milked it too. However Eddie put himself in that position (black window comment notwithstanding - there was a nasty element to it as opposed to Tony Shaw)
Your fact four is an opinion I need to think more about but would be in some type of agreement FWIW.
Whether the middle class women that you use here may or may not have done anything about the violence that some /many aboriginal women are subject to is in some ways is neither here nor there.
May be some of them do a lot of work with victims of male violence. neither you or me know for sure
Eddie has done a lot for social causes that I can see including assisting women & backing the MND effort. That doesn't mean he didn't stuff up here though as he unintentionally did with Goodes & unthinkingly if not bullyingly did with Jessica Rowe.
He lost judgement I think because of the blokey environment of MMM & we all know he has a thin skin - I think he needs to get the hell out of the MMM environment as asap.
Part of my work regularly involves working with almost entirely with women victims of domestic violence.
Having said that I do believe that there has been a disproportionate response - the social media campaign / collecting signatures gets up my nose.
I live about 10 km from the CBD!!
I love the word "numbskulls" - looks like you watched too many episodes of the 3 stooges when you were growing up. I don't mind "knucklehead" either.
Hav ing said all of that I feel sorry for Ed's family

Go Pies.
In the referenced link, Pert says : "Can the debate move away from whether the comments were right or wrong? We know the answer. Eddie has already stated that what he said was inappropriate and for that he has apologised".
No, we cannot move the debate away from that. Just because the Collingwood FC does not want to talk about it any more, does not mean that the cultural significance of what happened this week is something we should stop debating or resisting. The club can have my support and my money. It cannot tell me what to think.
I'd much prefer that McGuire gave up this blokey media persona, which demeans his office and lands him and the club in hot water too often. His comments were tasteless, ill-judged and boorish, but no reasonable person would conclude that they were made other than in jest, or that they seriously advocated violence against women. Given that, it seems clear to me that this episode is about power, not right or morality - specifically, the power of one privileged group (well-platformed national journalists who happen to be female) to exhibit warning colours designed to deter satire or ridicule, and to demand that we accept their narrative as dominant.

The whole Jessica Rowe thing needs to be explained. He was newly appointed CEO of channel 9 and then relocated to Sydney where he was told by the owners he had to sack a number of people to save so many millions of dollars. Naturally when you sack people there's going to be a lot of very unhappy people, so of whom might claim there were bullied. You have only Rowe's explanation for what happened, which is coming from an angry woman who has just been sacked. Eddie hasn't made any public comment on the matter, nor should he since that's the privy of management. So easy to criticise without knowing the truth.

25 pages of Nicksters justifying why Eddie McGuire's joke about drowning Caroline Wilson was OK (despite what we think of her as a journalist)... and for the most completely missing the point.
Gary Pert has put this up on the Collingwood facebook page today...
"The clear message is that any behaviour or language that causes, condones or makes light of violence against women is unacceptable and will be held to account".
Eddie is the President of our football Club and has sent the wrong message to supporters and the broader community. And his comments have directly led to this toxic debate debate all week.
To quote Rosie Batty, the former Australian of the Year:
"It wasn't meant to be harmful but that's the very point of being aware of the language you're using, the role modelling that you have in a [high]-profile position, what you stand for and your behaviour," she said.
"And Eddie's just as accountable as everybody else."

When Carro called Swan a drug addict and said he should be sacked was that meant to be harmful?stoliboy wrote:25 pages of Nicksters justifying why Eddie McGuire's joke about drowning Caroline Wilson was OK (despite what we think of her as a journalist)... and for the most completely missing the point.

However, that episode aside, I do think that Ed generally demeans himself by performing on that dumb arsed radio show, full of half wits. Ed is better than that, and should find a better vehicle for his media talents.
