Cheers Rudeboy. We'll agree to disagree then. I reckon Eddie did make a mistake with what & how he said what he did
Here is another take on it: Was drawn to it from a link in the Footy Almanac:
Really quite interesting & worthy of consideration IMO

Poor Eddie. With friends like Sam last night, Eddie doesn't need more enemies. The paleontological tool that Sam is has NFI.Bob Sugar wrote:I'm hoping Sam pushes off the fence with the long run up tonight.
This is the same Sam that thought it was funny to get a mannequin & assault it as he did with the picture of Wilson on it. Of course Sam said it was all a joke, nothing in it.

I guess I just get frustrated by all the hoopla made over a silly joke, when there are real issues of violence (not just against women) totally ignored. It sometimes seems to me that some people are more offended by a few words than by actual violence. furthermore, some people are preoccupied with grandstanding over token gestures, rather than actually dealing with real structural causes of violence, sexism, racism and class divisions.
It's a bit like at the Oscars this year, when many wealthy white film industry people were outraged that no black actors were nominated for Oscars. The black comedian Chris Rock's response was, "well there weren't many blacks nominated in the 1960s and 70s either, but we in the black community did not protest about this.....because we were too busy protesting about blacks being strung up from trees by the KKK".

Wow! That is an appropriate response to my very polite criticism?Neil Appleby wrote:Unfortunately, we live in a world where the regressive, left wing, PC brigade's constant bleating about being offended, takes priority over free speech. It's very evident here on Nick's, with the mods team now intervening with <snips> more than I can ever remember; sometimes in ludicrous circumstances.

After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing!

It was a poor choice of words and they certainly should not have made reference to staying under water or holding her under but IMO the words do not constitute violence against women
Even 3AW thought it was worthy of Caro going down the slide for next year (as a joke).
What happened if Eddie had offered 10,000 for Caro do go down the slide and 50,000 for there to be extra ice in the water instead of holding her under, don't think this would even be a topic.

Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy.

More waffle and piffle from those hypnotised by social media.stoliboy wrote:25 pages of Nicksters justifying why Eddie McGuire's joke about drowning Caroline Wilson was OK (despite what we think of her as a journalist)... and for the most completely missing the point.
Gary Pert has put this up on the Collingwood facebook page today...
"The clear message is that any behaviour or language that causes, condones or makes light of violence against women is unacceptable and will be held to account".
Eddie is the President of our football Club and has sent the wrong message to supporters and the broader community. And his comments have directly led to this toxic debate debate all week.
To quote Rosie Batty, the former Australian of the Year:
"It wasn't meant to be harmful but that's the very point of being aware of the language you're using, the role modelling that you have in a [high]-profile position, what you stand for and your behaviour," she said.
"And Eddie's just as accountable as everybody else."
There is nothing to justify other than your own outrage over nothing.
What he said specifically, did not condone or make light of violence against women in any way shape or form.
The fact a link has been made between the offending joke and DV is what people should be outraged about. It's a pathetic subservient link driven by the primary agenda of certain personalities in the media including Wilson herself who is loving every minute of this.

I know this has been done to death. But it does me good to read the comments here. The majority aren't taken in by this nonsense.
This had nothing to do with what was said, and everything to do with who said it.
There are only a few ways you can get to Eddie, but political correctness is one of them. There's simply no way he can win.
Tony Shaw does the same joke?
Doesn't matter
The joke has nothing gender specific in it at all?
Doesn't matter
No one was offended in the slightest until it became an issue?
Doesn't matter
Just bash Eddie.
" any behaviour or language that causes, condones or makes light of violence against women is unacceptable "
And nothing Eddie said, caused, condoned or made light of violence against women.
I'm happy to criticise him if he deserves it... but this is simply a witch hunt, and seeing others recognise that fact, cheers me up no end.
And David King on 360 last night was a sight to behold.
Everyone has had enough.

Well, it looks like Perty must read Nicks.Bob Sugar wrote:When Carro called Swan a drug addict and said he should be sacked was that meant to be harmful?stoliboy wrote:25 pages of Nicksters justifying why Eddie McGuire's joke about drowning Caroline Wilson was OK (despite what we think of her as a journalist)... and for the most completely missing the point.

I was out last night, just saw Sam on the Footy show, and although I don't often agree with him, he summed up the gross hypocrisy and media circus of the whole farcical saga very well indeed, nice one Sam !

WTF ?? Sam, whom I often disagree with, pointed out very well the gross hypocrisy between radio 3AW , Caros mob, and MMM, Caro let the AW team say the same thing, did nothing, not a whimper, then after five day, five bloody days, unleashes feinged outrage against eddie. Gimme a break, Sam caught her out good n proper, for the pontificating scandal bullshit artist she truly is.watt price tully wrote:Poor Eddie.
