I don't think anyone is under the illusion we're a top team this year. We finished probably where we deserved to. Doesn't mean we can't be proud of the efforts we've shown against some of the top teams this year.

Don't be proud of that, I certainly hope the players are not......IDIOTIC mistakes cost them a football game.
Sure  Brown was very good, shut his man almost completely out of the game.

It's definitely a game to be proud of. With 10+ of our best 22 missing we almost got the job done against Hawthorn in their most important game of the year.
Agree, Brown very good, wasn't the Dawks KPFs who hit the scoreboard. Made the 1 mistake as I remember it and that was the kick across HB.

Ditto Williams. People must be watching different games. Without Williams attack on the footy in the last, we don't get close.
You obviously missed his blind swat from a pack to a stationery Lewis to kick a goal on the 3/4 time siren. It's just DUMB football. For every 3 goals he stops one on o e, he causes 3 goals from dumb play,

Yes Williams is one of the few guys who can cut the opposition to pieces at times.
But his disposal is shocking.
One example was the last few minutes when we were 1 goal up i think.
He came bursting thru the centre , he grabbed the ball and hacked it forward.
....a whole 25m to a hawks player standing there by himself.
That sums him up at the moment.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

Our boys have to win, plain and simple.
That image is a choice you're making. My lasting image is that we were three goals down in the last quarter after the Hawks did that steamroller thing they do, and we got up off the canvas and decked them. they are a champion side full of experience so they found enough to get on their feet and stagger over the line, as such sides do. But my lasting images of this game are different. This is a rare game where the final score result was actually secondary.

I saw enough today to think that a sneaky fifty on us for the premiership next year is good value at the odds.

Need more then Just Effort

Post by Dave The Man »

We been saying all season we look good only when our Effort is good

That is good but we need more then Effort to make Finals.

We need players who has great skills and use ball well.

Can't only hang out hat in Effort.

As at the moment we have too many Players that have Great Effort but are Poor Skills\Descion Making\Skills.

Name some:

Blair
Williams
Greenwood
Sinclair

We've ended the last two seasons playing like a bottom 4 team.

We end this season playing like a top 8 team.

I haven't been optimistic about Bucks as a coach since the end of 2013, but I'm content to look positively now at 2017.

I think this makes me a new (or temporary) member of the lollypop or Mary Poppins brigade.

Oh well...... let's see what the trade period produces

So deflating. He was crushing it in the final qtr running off half back at every centre clearance...but that shank was just a killer and kick to the guts. Why snap a ball on the run vs a long drop punt? Why do our players constantly disappoint with stupid choices time and time again? I don't think it can be taught or coached out. We're stuck with the good, the bad and the ugly. That's 2 out of 3 times in the negative unfortunately, which means at some stage we need to cut our losses with some of the repeat offenders. Imagine our team with a full list of smart heads? We play finals football if that was the case.

Enough is enough. There should be a footy IQ test for bloggers on Nick's now! Brown and Marley cost us 4 goals! And yet the sycophantic sympathisers on these sites make me want to do a "Terry Wallace" and throw up. Lets break it down:

1. Nathan Brown 9 iron kick across backline that was turned over for Hartung goal.

2. Nathan Brown with 20 seconds to go in third quarter said "hey Jordan Lewis.. are you free tap tap here you go"... goal.

3. Marley: here you go Josh Smith ... woops spoon kick to opposition.... goal

4. Marley: fumbles, spills and turns it over in second quarter inside 50.... goal.

Let alone with scores level Marley hacks a 30 metre kick out of middle after streaming forward "unopposed" to Hawks player lace out! Nathan Brown with 35 seconds to go on the backline decides to punch ball over line when we needed an "offensive motive".

I've simply had a gutful of fans who accept mediocrity, praise pitiful skills and seemingly perpetuate an allowance for 6/10 performances by "individuals"!

FANTASTIC effort by the boys. What a game !!

Equalled and headed time and again but they kept coming.

Treloar's 3 quarter effort of 36 disposals was outstanding.

Howe, again, our best down back.
lulz, I'm as negative as they come in regards to our status quo but if you're moaning about this effort you really should forget the interwebs,
What ?!? You see my post as a moan ? Dead set idiot.
I think you'll find he was agreeing with you.

Monco Matt wrote:I just hope that one day soon we will improve by cutting out 50% of all our howling errors that cost us goals. Some players are serial offenders, we know who they are. When that happens i think we will be a serious football team capable of beating anyone consistently. Until then every season will be like this, nearly, almost but never quite.

Gutsy effort but heart breaking.

On to 2017. I think Cloke & Marley (save for a few howlers between them) had a real crack. Marley was awful for most of the game and cost us a chance to win at the end with that horrible kick to our HF line, but he attacked the ball hard in the last and there may be hope for him. We need to replace Brown, his kicking kills us, but he did defend well one-on-one, so I guess he stays but he either needs to improve his kicking penetration or we need to find a fast replacement. Varcoe has had a poor season, needs to get more aggressive. Greenwood was hard today, really good game. There is lots to like but I just hope we can get full seasons from Reid, Fasolo & Elliot in 2017 and get all the young guys to take a step up and show real improvement.

Go Pies in 2017!!! Go GWS in 2016!
Yep Monco.THAT kick was the one that should!!! have on us the game. That kick,by just about anyone else, would have landed in or around the goal square given us at least a sniff, but it went 20 metres straight to the opposition. It reminded me of one of our grand final losses to the scum when Billy Picken went screaming out of our backline full of dash and launched into the ball and kicked it all of 15 yards ,straight to a very surprised Bruce Doull who calmly slotted one of his only goals of his career in that Grand final. :(

Right, so defenders shouldn't try to spoil the footy toward the boundary.
