There are valid reasons for criticising this appointment and there are some seriously spurious ones.
Valid reasons include already noted concerns about the club's governance practice of the last two decades with no genuine involvement of the membership in board appointments due to uncontested appointments. Another is the question over the latest appointee's eligibility due to her period of membership.
Invalid reasons to critique the appointment (and which frankly make supporters look like a bunch of f^&king idiots) include scraping her twitter bio and proffering it as valid evidence that she has accepted nomination to simply seek to advance her own causes.
Congratulations internet super-sleuths: you've discovered she's a doctor (so smart and motivated by care), she's a cyclist (a high achieving athlete and continues to hold a passion for the sport - no one else on this board likes to pedal??) and she likes cheese... She also acknowledges the traditional owners of the land (an attitude that likely is an important way forward from the Do Better report.)
Dr O'Donnell bears zero responsibility for the issues in the club to date that have caused many of us disappointment and frustration. Aim your anger at the systematic failures of the club administration that may have resulted in the make up and appointment practices of the board. But to take aim at her personally or to criticise her for putting her hand up to contribute only reflects poorly on your own ability to think critically about the reasons for your own frustrations.

Was Senator Robert Ray a definitely devout Pies manLazza wrote:Reminds me when Paul Keating joined as Collingwood’s No. 1 member although we have never had a membership ranking system based on celebrities. It was just political expediency. Bob Hawke was Sydney. However Senator Ray Richardson (I stand corrected on the name) was a devout ‘pies man. Former premier of Victoria, John Brumby who I knew from Bendigo was also a passionate magpie.

From my perspective, it should be mandatory that a Collingwood board member is a passionate Collingwood person.
Maybe it's archaic thinking, but I want board members to feel the same emotional investment as the average supporter does.

Just to play devil's advocate here, but do we want an entire board full of passionate magpies diehards? Decisions influenced by the bias of their support as some see Bucks tenure with Eddie?
I consider myself a fairly rational, logical, educated person, however I am certain any decision I would make about something I love, including Collingwood would have some subjectivity to it.
We criticize Eddie for the creeping bias that has littered his presidential tenure, yet we ask for that same diehard passion in all members of our board? Where is the opposing view, the dissented decision that opens discussion?
I know this probably sells our board members short as they are no doubt capable of objectivity, but what if they're not?

A Collingwood member of four decades is planning to collect signatures at the Magpies’ game this Sunday to force an extraordinary general meeting of the club amid doubts about the eligibility of new director Bridie O’Donnell.
But the move to topple the board could come as soon as this weekend, with Magpies member David Hatley, who says he works in the mortgage industry, declaring his plans to collect signatures at the Pies’ game against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday.
Signatures from five per cent of the club’s voting members are required to force an EGM.
“I’ve been a Collingwood member for about 40 years. A legends member since it started in 2000. We pay almost $1000. This is the final tipping point for me. I’m going to get as many signatures as I can,” Hatley told The Age.
An estimated 15,000 Collingwood members have voting rights, meaning some 750 signatures are needed.

Should never have let Ed walk like he did. Collingwood will never have a president/ board member as passionate as Ed.Jezza wrote:From my perspective, it should be mandatory that a Collingwood board member is a passionate Collingwood person.
