Problem is they didn’t just limit to social club members which was the plan. Anyone was signing it. So now they probably have to sort out who is eligible to be counted and who isn’t.robevpau1 wrote:Mark Stevens just tweeted: "David Hatley, member leading charge for board spill at Collingwood has just released this to supporters: “Your amazing support means we already have almost double the number of signatures needed for an EGM.”

Board coup
This is my first post on this forum. I live in Queensland so only see the odd game live, using the interstate membership. I give a hint of my age by saying that Des Tuddenham was my hero at school. Good grief, we could do with some of the 'die for Collingwood' spirit that Des had.
I echo previous posts in saying that this proposed EGM might be counterproductive in its present unstructured form. I hark back to the meeting at Dallas Brookes Hall in 1982, or was it 1983? A ticket had been formed headed by Ranald MacDonald and featuring ex players like Terry Waters, Len Thompson and Brian McKenzie. It was spectacularly successful, though the new board nearly sent the club broke via some questionable recruitment. BUT, and its a big but, this eventually lead to signing of Leigh Matthews and the 1990 flag. Sure, the club could not maintain the momentum, but it was a change that was desperately needed at the time, and it's surely needed now.
Those of us crying out for a full clean out need someone to set up a takeover ticket to run against the current board in a structured, convincing manner that will appeal to most members. Like other posts, the name that appealed to me is John Bertrand. Apparently he was suggested by Peter Moore. Now there's a thought, John Bertrand and Peter Moore to heada takeover group. Both are successful men outside of football. John has been head of Swimming Australia and served on many boards. Both are cleanskins, not tainted by the rubbish that has gone on over the past several years.
Come on you Melbourne supporters, get a group together to take on the current board of fools. No more salary cap and list management fiascoes, no more of Eddie's foot in mouth foibles. We have the worst player list in the competition, save for maybe North and Hawthorn. We've sold our first draft pick, and might not have enough draft points to snare Nick Daicos. Perhaps he might end up at Carlton! Bucks can't escape his involvement in this mess. Boot them out!

Like queenslandpie, I too have in mind people of that calibre to lead a transition, whether it be a short-term or long-term role. You need that sort of gravitas to signal sufficient change, attract the right coach, reset the culture and salary cap economics to attract the right players, and so on.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Reading this, it really is hard to believe democracy disappeared at the CFC for 23 years!
It's worked out so well. Why not keep doing the same thing over and over again.

That would be an ex Collingwood member. You cannot claim to be a frigging magpie fan while on the board at EssenscumKillbot wrote:Pies appoint Saints/Bulldogs supporting Board Member
then today ...
Essendon appoint a Collingwood supporter/member to their board

Yep, there's is a global movement towards extreme transparency in corporate governance, as a risk management approach if nothing else, large investors demand this...the old school, boys only networks way of doing business is going the way of the dinosaurRudeBoy wrote:Rule by elites are being challenged everywhere in the world it seems.
People are sick and tired of being treated as second class. Yes, democracy can be annoying to elites, but they need to just suck it up. We're coming for you!

Although a possibility, I very much doubt that would happen considering the vocal support for change by ex players and “influential” coterie members.Jezza wrote:What happens if no one challenges the current board at the EGM?
Theoretically, O'Donnell's appointment could be ratified then and there rather than at the AGM early next year.
TBH, this is playing out perfectly for the Jeff Browne camp. He will ride in on the coattails of the members forcing the EGM allowing him a clean start with even more importantly, clean hands.

Re: Board coup
It's as you say. You can't just call a meeting and hope someone comes forward and nominates. You need to have an opposing ticket to challenge the existing board. Or if you're happy with the current president but not happy with some current members of the board (the most recent one comes to mind) you can nominate those board members you wish to challenge with your own nominees. Some caution here, the financials of AFL footy clubs are very complicated. You don't want to have a clean sweep with all new board members being appointed and no one experienced in finance to handle the financials of the club. This is what happened in the 1980's. If people are unhappy with Mark Korda I really only see three possible alternatives - Jeff Browne, Peter Murphy or Craig Kelly. Also for stability on the board you need to have some continuity of existing board members to continue serving. The two to come to mind are Licuria and Christine Holgate. Not every serving board member needs to be a business person.queenslandpie wrote:This is my first post on this forum. Browne's silence concerns me. If he doesn't emerge soon and announce the challenge, this could get messy.slangman wrote:Although a possibility, I very much doubt that would happen considering the vocal support for change by ex players and “influential” coterie members.Jezza wrote:What happens if no one challenges the current board at the EGM?

If he does challenge then the EGM will be worth the effort and the petition won't be for nothing.
