It's as you say. You can't just call a meeting and hope someone comes forward and nominates. You need to have an opposing ticket to challenge the existing board. Or if you're happy with the current president but not happy with some current members of the board (the most recent one comes to mind) you can nominate those board members you wish to challenge with your own nominees. Some caution here, the financials of AFL footy clubs are very complicated. You don't want to have a clean sweep with all new board members being appointed and no one experienced in finance to handle the financials of the club. This is what happened in the 1980's. If people are unhappy with Mark Korda I really only see three possible alternatives - Jeff Browne, Peter Murphy or Craig Kelly. Also for stability on the board you need to have some continuity of existing board members to continue serving. The two to come to mind are Licuria and Christine Holgate. Not every serving board member needs to be a business person.

I'm not against an EGM, but I just think diving in head first without a clear path is fraught with danger, especially if certain parties don't come to the table as some anticipate.

Then, alternative candidates can emerge.

Although a possibility, I very much doubt that would happen considering the vocal support for change by ex players and “influential” coterie members.
TBH, this is playing out perfectly for the Jeff Browne camp. He will ride in on the coattails of the members forcing the EGM allowing him a clean start with even more importantly, clean hands.

Browne's silence concerns me. If he doesn't emerge soon and announce the challenge, this could get messy.

If he does challenge then the EGM will be worth the effort and the petition won't be for nothing.

Browne is too smart to be making a challenge publicly before an EGM is called.
He will wait for this petition to do the “dirty work” otherwise he will no doubt nominate at the AGM which would be a smoother political manoeuvre.

If ever there was a reason why we need an election, that “interview” was it.

Our newest non-voting board member unable to convincingly answer what she/the Club knew before her appointment, despite being delivered a soft half volley and despite referring to her pre-prepared, rehearsed talking points.

Can’t wait for this EGM.

Thanks David. I wouldn't stand a chance of being elected, because I'd be up against the full incumbent machine, however, as a matter of principle I think our members should be given a choice.
