Bertrand was in the running, but was supportive of getting behind Korda when the announcement was made in April.Piesnchess wrote:I just want this issue resolved, ASAP, its too distracting. FWIW, i dont want either of em to be President, i wanted a true sports champion, a proven winner, good bloke , in John Bertram, former Australia 2 skipper. He said hes interested, yet not even mentioned.

Also interesting that we had an unsuccessful off field board [team was bad onfield too] pre-Eddie, led by an ex-footballer and friends and it was overthrown quietly by a TV celebrity and his non-football friends. We have tasted success, both off field and on field since, but became tainted [i don't mean to pass judgement, I'm discussing brand, not inherent racism in this case] due to the circumstances of an ex player, to the degree a president who should have retired his position probably at least 5 years ago, stood down. The board was reshuffled as a result. On field our women's team had a great year, as did netball, but the men's team struggled to the point of 'playing the kids'. So a friend of the ex-president feels he should take control. Could be good [think Eddie], could be bad [think New Magpies].
I don't know what is the right way to go. Boards don't win you flags, but they CAN lose you money - which impacts on everything. They are not straight out of the 'Club' its a big business, like it or not. They are not selectors, they don't select the coach or finetune the gameplan. They oversee a business and trust the football department. If anything, their trust has been burned by a series of jobs for the boys, which goes back decades if not more than a century.
Whatever happens at board level it's simply about power. If Browne came out and said he was in favour of retaining NB, I imagine his bid would be squashed overnight. And who knows yet, maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Same with Korda... if he announced that NB was gone at years end, that would change sentiment immediately, likewise if he said we will retain him.
Ultimately we care about results on the field, that begins and ends with the football department which needs a fundamental reset in most of our eyes. It won't matter who is president, who is on the board, unless that happens [probably, I mean you have to go with the law of averages here]

I’m with you, I’m not sold on either. It’s like the South Park episode where we get to vote between a giant douche or a tird sandwich.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:Frankly I don’t know who to support, Korda or Browne. Got Koda’s email with the signed signatures of the board members. Doesn’t convince me. Browne doesn’t convince me either. Gee, our club is in a mess.
This looks more and more like the club is the plaything of these rich businesses people, who don’t really care about the club.

He says three board members are up for re-election at the AGM. So we either wait for the AGM or we go early at an EGM. Personally I haven’t a clue what to do. All I know is I don’t want it to turn out like the 80’s.PyreneesPie wrote:So Korda has stated neither he nor any present members of the board will stand down. It seems then, that the outcome will be decided by an EGM? It will take quite a few weeks for that to be organised- towards the end of the season.

My vote isn’t as much for Browne as it is against Korda & Co.Cam wrote:That's a very interesting decision making model.slangman wrote:I don’t know what plan or vision Browne has for the club, but whatever it is I know that it is better than what this current group have.
IMHO Korda has been more than disappointing in his short time as president.
I attended the presidents lunch vs Port and his speech was cringeworthy and awkward.
Maybe Murphy would have been a better option as president.

It would be hard to argue that Browne in part at least isn't doing Ed's bidding if surprise surprise the board members he looks to oust are exactly the ones deemed to have pushed McGuire out.
The worst possible outcome for me would be to see Browne installed as President, Buckley re-signed on his orders and the likes of Murphy and Licuria deposed.
If that happened we would be back to square one IMO.
The only way I could reconcile losing someone like Murphy would be if Browne was adamant a change of coach needs to happen. I would treat that as a regrettable outcome but one for the greater good of the club.
Ultimately Browne as President, Buckley dismissed and Murphy/Licuria retained is my preferred outcome.
