Though if memory serves, at least one person who publicly speculated that they might stand received a call from certain people, and after that they felt they'd "been heard" and no longer needed to stand.

Quite clearly incumbency carries with it enormous power and advantages over any prospective challenger. In the past, it's probably true that some have been 'persuaded' not to contest an election. However, ultimately it's up to members whether they decide to stand or not. It's one thing to want to stand, but it's another thing to really, really, really want to stand, knowing that the incumbents will most likely conduct a smear campaign against a challenger's character. Having the money and resources to run a media campaign is probably also a constraint stopping many from standing.scoobydoo wrote:Sounds like that guy who threatened an EGM,got the signatures & then disappeared. If that's the lesson you took from that, you got the wrong end of the stick. The problem isn't democracy; the problem is when you don't actually have much of a democracy to begin with and only out-of-touch multimillionaires (or, in Collingwood FC's case, just regular corporate bigwigs) can run in the first place.uuuuu..... I agree David Hatley had good intentions and wanted what was only best for the club, but I'm more cynical of these faceless people who are keen to continue this charade without Hatley who's now withdrawn from the process.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:You can’t blame them. Their hearts were in the right place and they got the desired result which was a meeting with Mark Korda and a promise to bring forward the AGM to December and open up three board positions for re-election. The problem with this sort of thing is that some people never know when to stop and when it gains momentum emotion takes over and often bad things happen that are worse than the initial problem. I still remember the 1980’s when the Collingwood Football Club almost became extinct.

If not calling him an out of touch millionaire is very naive.
Why don’t you run for the board?
