The government may be incompetent when it comes to quarantine and border controls but I'm sure they know that they can only keep this going for so long before the anti-lockdown protestors become the majority.

^ Majority of COVID cases?

In Victoria, 24 new local cases and no new case acquired overseas.
- 39,832 test results were received

The Government says that "Of the 24 locally-acquired cases, 20 are linked to known outbreaks and 18 have been in isolation for the entirety of their infectious period".

In terms of where the NSW numbers might go from here, it might be worth mentioning that with last year's less infectious variant, Victoria had reported a total of just under 10,000 cases when it reached its first day of more than 600 new cases (694 on 30 July 2020). After that, Victoria only had 5 further days of more than 400 cases - but the long "tail" of cases as number reduced meant that there were still more than 10,000 additional cases recorded before the outbreak was stopped. Hopefully, NSW can get this under control very quickly, from here - if not, the control period and decline in numbers, alone (that is, without factoring in further increases), looks almost certain to see massive additional infection numbers.

As to the extent of restrictions, there, you'd think it inevitable now that Sydney would need to be locked down until at least November. Whether it is or not is a different matter.
