3 July NSW 7 day average was 27
19 August VIC 7 days average is 27

By the 13th of July, NSW was 75, 10 days later 117, and 10 days later 214

We'll know in 30 days whether lockdowns work and whether Dan can defeat delta.

We know lockdowns "work" in keeping numbers down - even the Binchicken agrees with that - the question is whether lockdowns can reverse a Delta outbreak in a major urban concentration of people. A 14-day curfew (perhaps supported by boarding-up everybody in their houses) would do the trick but I doubt that there are any takers.

Problem is the current lockdown just isn't sustainable. People won't keep doing it.

That depends upon how seriously it is enforced. In Kenya, they have been supporting their COVID curfew with the army shooting on sight. It isn't too popular but nearly everyone complies.

Also saves hospital beds I suppose.

It does just grind you down. When was the last time people in Melbourne were able to go about their business without restrictions? Even when we had the run for what seemed like months of no community cases there were still restrictions and limits.

5 days up in Darwin was like a different world, as was Toc until recently. QR code check ins was the only sign of difference from 2019.

They've found the case in Shepparton that they've been looking for for a few days based on wastewater testing.

Meanwhile, while Dan is still talking about getting back to Zero cases, Gladys is planning to re-open.
The NSW Police Minister David Elliott has officially confirmed the state government is planning to open restaurants and bars once NSW hits a vax rate of 70 per cent.

The reopening is part of the NSW government’s “freedom plan” that is expected to be finalised next week if approved by the Premier.

Under a vaccine passport-style scheme when the state’s vaccination rate hits 70 per cent, those who are double-jabbed will be permitted to dine in outdoor restaurant settings, train at the gym or have a drink in beer gardens with capacity restrictions in place.

Seems like they're more or less falling into line with the Victorian restrictions after all. A shame it couldn't have happened earlier.

Positive case detected in Shepparton. There has have been COVID detections in wastewater in Shepp over the past week, so probably only a matter of time until a positive case.

Also, people sneaking into the regions from Melbourne increased the chances of it getting out.

Wouldn't it be more likely a person from NSW?
