^ There's a fair degree of political bias in your comment, eddiesmith. I have just been listening to the same press conference and have been positively surprised by how much command of the data he seemed to have. I don't vote for the ALP and expect them to be idiots, so my surprise is reasonably impartial, I think.

Really? Every question he's asked for details he says he doesn't know and doesn't have that information, what press conference are you listening to?
We know it's 80%, so how many is that? We don't know that...
Then he goes off on "Commonwealth responsibility, but we'll step up and help out..."
Anyway most shocking information is they stopped Covid testing before surgery despite multiple outbreaks recently...

So you think it's fair enough that after months of bashing other government's for not learning from Victoria's multiple **** ups last year, Victoria has stopped learning from their own mistakes?
Do you really think stopping people having to get a negative Covid test before surgeries was a smart move? Had they done it, they may have caught this Shepparton outbreak over a week ago and wouldn't have a major outbreak in a public hospital.
As for missing information, most times they come to these press conferences with the information, not just provide small tidbits and hope no one asks for more detail...

There had been wastewater detections in Shepp for about 2 weeks prior to the outbreak up there.eddiesmith wrote:So you think it's fair enough that after months of bashing other government's for not learning from Victoria's multiple **** ups last year, Victoria has stopped learning from their own mistakes?

People were asked to get tested if they had symptoms.
Some people are just ignoring advice, the same with getting the vaccine.
Until an issue directly affects them, people will be inclined to do nothing.

Just interesting data in NSW.
830 new cases and they did 206,193 tests for the day, and 127,264 vaccinations.
That's some serious work. They now have over 2 million fully vaccinated (2 shots) out of a total population of 8 million, well on the way to getting the adult population done.

eddiesmith, what the Premier actually said, on or about 5 August, according to the ABC was as follows:
He said part of the reason regional Victoria was included in the restrictions was because coronavirus fragments had been detected during wastewater tests in Wangaratta.
"We have some reason to believe there is COVID-19 in that community or has been in that community," he said.

He also said...
Which was wrong, after the positive a week earlier and before Dans press conference they had actually had 2 negative results not another positive.“Why is this in regional Victoria when the cases are predominantly in Melbourne? Well, we have a sewerage test that has detected COVID in the Northeast. So, the Wangaratta sewerage test has pinged if you like. Firstly, positive, then it went negative, now it’s gone positive again,” Mr Andrews said.

There was an unexpected positive result for Covid in the Wangaratta wastewater on Friday 30 July, every test since has been negative, including tests on 2, 4, 5 and 6 August.
My recollection is that the positive test on around 5th that was used to justify the regional lockdown was known to be an error by as early as late on the same day the result was reported, but they proceeded anyway. It was being reported as wrong on the 6th.

It was undoubtedly true that the Government had "a sewerage test that has detected COVID in the Northeast" - Benalla returned an unexpected positive result on 5 August. What's it - about half an hour away from Wangaratta?
Does it really matter if he mis-spoke? I assume the decision was taken in circumstances of some urgency - and you'd rather they erred on the side of being cautious. Plainly, I'm now in lockdown in Portarlington again because of what's happening in Shepparton. They've been getting positive wastewater results there since 11 August - perhaps if they'd kept the north and north east locked down for a couple of weeks, instead of just 4 days, the rest of the regions might not be having to deal with this, now.
Very detailed data is posted, here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/wastewater- ... o-14042021
