Agree completely. Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
Make the causal link to lockdown - as distinct from the general consequences and uncertainty arising from the lockdown, if you can. It isn't a matter of jumping to conclusions - it's a matter of trying to understand the underlying reasons for things.stui magpie wrote:Pies4shaw wrote:^ That comparison is entirely spurious.https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/healt ... a0391b0653Attempted suicide rates among Victorian teenagers have skyrocketed by 184 per cent in the past six months.

Teenagers aged 13-18 were the most at risk, accounting for 75 per cent of the total crisis interventions from December 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021.

That argument sounds the same as the 2nd amendment wankers who say, guns don't kill people, people kill people.Pies4shaw wrote:

Anywho. Low deaths in NSW are a good sign. Maybe vaccinating the most vulnerable (elderly) means that yes, people get sick, but very, very few are dying. That could be a reason to explain why Vic deaths are so much higher than NSW deaths with roughly the same number of confirmed cases.

But you think about people who's outlet every week is for example on the footy field, a chance to socialise with their teammates and get some fun and enjoyment on the field.
It's lockdowns, not the pandemic that has removed that outlet.
In NSW they got a full season in 2020, 2/3 of a season in 2021.
QLD, WA, SA, TAS would have got a full season both years.
Victoria, no season in 2020 and less than half a season in 2021.

Sorry about your son, but would he have been impacted the same had he lived in a different state or territory?
Lockdowns are clearly attributable to the pandemic and the Victorian Government's inability to manage the virus without needing extended ones.
If you're arguing that lockdowns only have a contributory impact on people's mental health, I'd argue you're splitting hairs. What proportion of the impact is directly attributable to lockdown is impossible to measure but they are clearly a cause.
I don't even know why we're having this argument.

Just wanted to add to this, the other things that shit me about Andrews is he is a liar, a braggart and utterly determined to deflect blame and responsibility.stui magpie wrote:Some people don't like the winging, fair enough. I can't cop people saying that Dan has done a good job.
Dan is clearly the worst performed Premier in regard to Covid in the country. Yes, he managed to get the state back to zero cases after locking the state down for months and stopping international arrivals. No other state until now in NSW let it get out of hand in the first place. Melbourne is the second most locked down jurisdiction in the world and has 82% of the Australian Covid Deaths. No other state in Australia has had to endure what we have had to.
Anyone who wants to defend him answer this question. If you could have lived and worked in any city in Australia during 2020, would you have chosen Melbourne?
As far as Gladys and NSW goes, yep, she fcucked up but had every right to try to do it her way, she had the runs on the board. Even now it's supposedly out of control, she's running a different strategy.
When wild and uncontrolled, the Delta variant as a reproduction number of between 5 and 9, meaning each person who gets it infects between 5 and 9 people. NSW has it at around 1.3. You need to get that number below 1 for the case number to start going down, but that's not her aim, she's now in containment mode, stopping it from going wild, and focusing on Vaccinations. vaccinations clearly work when you compare case numbers and death rates between NSW and Victoria. Once enough people are vaccinated, you start rolling back restrictions.
Only a few weeks ago he's up at press conferences bagging Gladys and telling her to put in place a "ring of steel" like he did, crediting it for keeping regional Vic safe when he knows damn well the only impact it had was to tie up massive amounts of Police resource. 48 hours later- we're back in lockdown.
A few months ago he's bragging that Victoria was the only jurisdiction to have defeated Delta twice, a lie. 48 hours later we're back in lockdown.
earlier in the year he's bragging how great our contact tracing now was (a lie) and how other states should copy ours, 48 hours later we're back in lockdown.

Not to mention not having the power to even implement a ring of steel in Victoria anymore and letting the virus escape Metro and get into Regional Victoria.stui magpie wrote:Just wanted to add to this, the other things that shit me about Andrews is he is a liar, a braggart and utterly determined to deflect blame and responsibility.stui magpie wrote:Some people don't like the winging, fair enough. But it goes all the way back to last year when he said no one would want to go to SA anyway and a couple of days later Victorians become unwelcome in every other state for the next 6 months...

Anyone can pretty much see that Victoria be in Lockdown until we at least hit 70% Vaccination which it the start of Easing LockdownsWhat'sinaname wrote:Lockdown extension confirmed by Jeroen. His is already conditioning us for that so that when it is formally announced it's no surprise.
So that's a min of 4 weeks of lockdown 6.
