However, despite experts warning the crisis could result in more people taking their own lives, data from suicide registers in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales shows that has not happened, even with key risk factors like unemployment worsening since the start of the pandemic.
What lies?

That 40 kids in NSW are rushed to emergency EVERY DAY because of self harm?

Or that, no matter how you cut it, there has been an increase in mental health services?

Well you be happy to have High Death Rates because of Covid then?

Even IF it means someone close you dies of Covid because the Vaccine Numbers are not High Enough when Lockdown ends?
NSW death rates aren't exactly high, and what I am suggested are low risk easing of restrictions. How does a family sitting in a different house make a difference?

Also, I'd be more devastated if my teenage cousin commits suicide because of being locked down and isolated from their friends. But you seem to be OK when IF teenages kill themselves it seems.
Harder to Trace it then as You can't have IQ Codes at every single house and it's more Relaxed and most likely NO Masks are on

Cheers, I will and the facts support me. Even in a hard statewide lockdown we can't get the numbers under control. Qld can with only LGA restrictions and NSW failure was to trust their TTI (Test, Trace, Isolate) system for too long. Delta is a game changer. Make no mistake, we need to be in lockdown now because that is the only tool the Vic government has that can hope to control the spread. That's a failure of government, again, and we all pay the price.

I say Queensland is to date providing evidence that even with the Delta strain (which is being used an excuse for Gladys) their warmer climate is an advantage just like Summer has proved beneficial across the globe in comparison to Winter.
Coronoaviruses spread faster in cold weather, that's a fact. That's why we have flu and cold season in winter. It does gives NSW and Victoria an advantage over Victoria but only with top class TTI and health response were they able to control it. The weather is not an excuse for Andrews.

I'm not suggesting we should just open shit up tomorrow and let thousands die, I'm stating that we have now been in lockdown for 210 days with all the consequent impacts to small business and mental health because of the repeated failures of the Andrews government and anyone who thinks they've done a good job, is just IMHO totally wrong.

I agree with the "live with the virus" idea, it's a matter of picking the right level of vaccination and opening up sensibly. Lets not follow the UK and just go full open in one shot, phase it and stagger it but let people live.

The clear lesson from NSW is that vaccinations work to prevent death and hospitalisation. We need to get used to the idea that Covid is not leaving, we need to learn to live with it while using targeted and sensible health responses to minimise impact. Covid Zero is no longer an option medium term.

The clear lesson from NSW is that if you handle an outbreak really hopelessly, it is still possible to have one and half times as many new cases in a single day as a competent administration has active cases in the whole of its current outbreak.

Just because the Binchicken stuffed up controlling the virus, there's no reason to pretend that the rest of the country will, too. The evidence is entirely to the contrary. The ACT is struggling a little - beset on all sides by NSW as it is - but the rest of the country has done very well keeping the virus under control. The vast majority of cases - and virtually every single death - since the start of last summer have been in NSW. It gets a bit tiresome reading people suggesting that because NSW is useless, the rest of us all need to be, too. Face it, they stuffed up and are continuing to stuff up. Big time. It would be convenient for the LNP if NSW took the rest of us down with it but it's not happened so far.

I see Dan is still targeting zero cases today, looks like lockdown till Christmas as he is also upset at NSW giving vaccinated people more freedoms so no hope if that in Victoria either.

Got to wonder what’s the point of getting vaccinated in Victoria of you’ll still be locked up for months anyway?

Of course he's targeting 0 cases. Any sane leader must, in the current context. It will be different when we get to a proper level of vaccine coverage. 30-odd per cent is not it.

We won't be in Lockdown for X-Mas as long as the Vaccination Roll Out does not get F**ked up.

I am okay when at least 70% of people Vaccinated to start thinking about Opening Up.

The problem is Dan throughout this pandemic has done the opposite of National cabinet so it’s hard to believe he’ll actually open up at 70%. He’s already attacked NSW for giving freedoms to vaccinated people.

I'll tell you what is funny and that's how people have completely chosen to ignore the one obvious natural advantage NSW has had over Victoria throughout this pandemic and that is climate.

Why is this an advantage?

Well a more moderate climate during the winter months encourages and affords millions of Sydney residents the luxury to make a decision that places them at less risk of catching COVID on a greater number of days of the year.

Whether it be friends and family catching up outside in the sunshine instead of a home, people choosing to go to their local shopping strip instead of a busy and climate controlled shopping centre or people simply being able to open their windows for ventilation or be in their backyard rather than a stuffy gas heated room it all adds up day after day after day to less risky environments.

Of course with the Delta strain that has now seemingly eroded any advantage for NSW and yet further north in Brisbane we aren't as yet seeing the same explosion of COVID cases?

Why is that?

Is it because the QLD Labor government are really the ones implementing the "gold standard" of contact tracing and other measures to control the spread or is it simply the result of a State having an even greater advantage over Victoria and NSW because of it's warm weather.
So you are saying we should allow people to catch up outside. Go to the beach during summer? Open up local shopping strips.

I agree. Yes we should.

In Victoria:

73 new local cases and no new cases acquired overseas. The Government says that "Of the locally-acquired cases, 52 have so far been linked to existing cases and outbreaks. Further case information will be provided this morning."

I'm not sure how you can believe that when it's clear that Victoria isn't able to get on top of this outbreak.

The numbers say entirely otherwise, so far. Also, the experience of WA, SA, Qld and the NT.

Not interested in the other states but the Victoria numbers are showing me that there is no end to lockdown.

“Victoria can’t get on top of it”

“Victoria can’t get their contact tracing right”

Why? Because victorIANS are not doing the Right thing! Go to the shops and watch who scans, who walks past, who refuses to wear a mask properly (yes when I’m on my walk and no one is near me I lower mine too, but not inside anywhere except home)

It’s not all on Dan and his mates, make sure your mates are doing the right thing!

I’m so over the attitudes right now, I almost walked off on my Bff Yesterday because of her parroting the antivax bullshit! Whinge whinge whinge, I want to be free, I want my rights, I want to choose, damn me me me me me! I’d left at half time for a walk, yet watching the 4th quarter massacre was more fun! At least it had a couple of punch ups!

So many selfish self centred arsehole who won’t do a thing to help themselves let alone anyone else
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

There will always be people who won't do the "right thing". If there wasn't we wouldn't need police or governments, which is why I don't accept governments using people not doing the right thing as an excuse for their terrible performance. If they did their job properly, we wouldn't be in this mess.
