This is just for the resolution to be brought at the AGM. You will still need to get 50% of people at the AGM to agree with the petition.Jezza wrote:This is my current understanding of it, but happy to be corrected on any points.magpieazza wrote:This will give us time to bring in a proper President who will no doubt be scrutinised in the next year, and rightly so. At least there shouldnt be any under handed back room deals...you would hope.
So if its a members vote only , how do we know that the members have the collective know how on who should be the best choice for prezo??
Do the members count for 100% of the votes ??
Im hoping members dont vote for the sake of voting, and make themselves well informed. Im not sure of the process if someone could enlighten me with the voting process.
Voting members roughly make up 13,000 of the 82,000 members. My understanding is a voting member is defined as someone who currently has a social club membership, which includes Club 5 and Legends among others.
At the moment, 4 board positions will be up for re-election in this upcoming AGM (Murphy, Holgate, O'Donnell and Wilson), which will be held on Thursday, December 16.
However, the Browne camp will seek to spill the entire board when the AGM occurs by getting a petition started. This petition requires the signatures of 100 members which isn't a high threshold to reach, so it's very attainable.
Once the 100 signatures requirement is fulfilled, all the board positions will be spilled and an election occurs for all 7 board positions.
I would assume someone independent of the club such as the Victorian Electoral Commission would be involved to ensure the electoral process is free from any corruption and/or rigging.
I'm unsure whether Browne plans to present his ticket and platform on the night itself or whether he'll start contacting members in the coming weeks and months.
It was reported last week that the club and Francis Galbally engaged in mediation which was resolved with the agreement that the club was to hand over the register of members to Galbally by Monday, August 30. In return, Galbally is subject to strict conditions and guidelines on how he utilises the register under section 177 Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
Galbally also said previously he wanted the register in order to contact voting members to outline his concerns about the club's corporate governance and to encourage members to support Jeff Browne's push for the presidency.
FWIW, I think the Wilson issue has sealed Korda's fate. The media will portray it as an eligiblity issue even though the AGM has been used many times to dispense with the eligibility requirements under the Constitution.

I've just written an email to Mark Korda but since I don't have Mark's email address, I had to address it through the membership department, so I don't know he'll receive it. What I basically said is that the situation at Collingwood has become farcical. You not only have a club with 83,000 members, but only less than 13,000 of those are eligible to vote. You also have serving board members who are ineligible to vote at their own AGM.
I've changed my mind about wanting the current board to stay. I think the entire board needs to go. I don't want Jeff Browne either. I'm hoping a situation presents itself where we get professionals who know what they're doing, running the board of the Collingwood Football Club. The football department needed a cleanout and thanks to Graham Wright they got one. Now the admin needs a cleanout. Anyone who's a paid up financial Collingwood member care to nominate?

Farcical. Must be adopting the honour system with every appointment these days. Shambolic form from an actual ‘auditor’. Reset the whole damn thing.

When Korda did a rush job to retain power post Eddie and usurp his rival Peter Murphy, he simply didn't check the club's own constitution to ensure eligibility of O'Donnell and Wilson. A bit reminiscent of Geoff Walsh and Ned Guy not using a calculator or excel spreadsheet!!

Bearing in mind that all these appointments on the board were initiated by Eddie McGuire. Mark Korda is just the fall guy like Robert Harvey was the fall guy to replace Nathan Buckley as coach of the coach.inxs88 wrote:When Korda did a rush job to retain power post Eddie and usurp his rival Peter Murphy, he simply didn't check the club's own constitution to ensure eligibility of O'Donnell and Wilson. You need to look at the New Magpies and also at some of the yes people that Eddie put on the board, some of whom almost certainly had as little historic connection to Collingwood as Bridie O'Donnell.Mr Miyagi wrote:Possibly the silliest board/VP appointment in the club’s history.Dr Pie wrote:Possibly the silliest statement I have read in 13 years on Nicks.Mr Miyagi wrote:If members vote ODonnell to stay, I’ll be barracking for Carlton
The silly part is saying that you would change your allegiance if the wrong person is elected to the committee. The committee isn't the club. If you are enough committed to Collingwood to post on Nicks you are not going to leave over one position on the committee. So why make a stupid rhetorical statement that no one believes anyway?
