The Hydra ~ Caro rears her head again

Seems that there will be 4 new board members, including a new President, elected at our next AGM.
I'd like to see Licuria, Murphy and Sizer retained, but the others should make way for better candidates. In particular, O'Donnell and Wilson should pack their bags. I never thought Holgate was a good member, in light of the 'gold watch' debacle at Aust Post. As for Korda, he has been there too long already and certainly has proved himself devoid of the communication skills required of a club President.
What we don't know, however, is the quality of those on the Browne ticket.

Listening to the Real Footy podcast with Caro, Jake Niall and Michael Gleeson there was further discussion about the issues surrounding the board.
From 17:28 to 23:00.
[*] Craig McRae's appointment is a "very modern" Collingwood appointment.
[*] Collingwood's first ever process to find a new senior coach.
[*] The club "didn't go out of their way" to go after Clarkson according to Caro. They weren't that desperate to get him.
[*] Jeff Browne had "some small input" into the McRae appointment.
[*] Browne was told of the McRae appointment before it was officially announced.
[*] Browne will likely be president by the end of the year.
[*] Browne has the support of Jodie Sizer, Peter Murphy and Paul Licuria and he will have the numbers to get in by Christmas.
[*] Browne has spoken to a number of Collingwood directors including Licuria and Murphy.
[*] Browne has spoken to Korda about "four or five" times.
[*] They're trying to give Korda a "graceful dismount" out of the club.
[*] Niall doesn't think Licuria and Murphy wouldn't have lost an election, and Sizer wouldn't have been voted out because it would have been a bad look for the club to get rid of an indigenous board member in light of the 'Do Better' Report.
[*] Browne is "not a politician, but a backroom guy".
[*] Niall doesn't think Browne wanted a full spill and "wanted to navigate his way into the position".
[*] Caro doesn't agree entirely with Niall. She says Murphy has agreed to the support of Browne because there was "a chance" of him losing an election.
[*] Further, Caro says Browne would have found an alternative to Sizer, but Sizer is realising that Browne is "not the nemesis she first said" he was.
[*] They want Korda to have a "graceful" exit, but it will happen this year rather than next year.
[*] Murphy's reluctance to be president earlier in the year has formed the backdrop for a lot of the board instability, which has played into Browne's hands.
[*] Browne would have been favourable to the McRae appointment "partly because of his friendship with Graeme Allan" who would have endorsed McRae for the role.

Voting out Holgate and Wilson a big error. I think Browne should just stand himself. He will beat O’Donnell. Korda can stay until next year but not as president. Murphy to be voted back in.Jezza wrote:Caroline Wilson doubling down on Footy Classified that Browne has received support from Peter Murphy, Paul Licuria and Jodie Sizer.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's a "peaceful" transition of power any time from now until the end of the year.
The new board will likely be:
[*] Jeff Browne (president)
[*] Peter Murphy
[*] Paul Licuria
[*] Jodie Sizer
[*] Unknown #1 (part of Browne's ticket)
[*] Unknown #2 (part of Browne's ticket)
[*] Unknown #3 (part of Browne's ticket)
Korda, Holgate, Wilson and O'Donnell will all depart by the end of the year.

I agree that she was the victim of Morrison's grimy politics. Nevertheless, at a time when ordinary Australia Post staff are generally low paid, and many are losing their jobs, to hand out expensive bonuses to senior managers, simply for doing their jobs, was a poor decision. Furthermore, I'm yet to know what she has contributed to Collingwood during her time on the board. She may well be a great asset for us, but I'm yet to be convinced.Fino wrote:Biggest hatchet job in Australian corporate history. Entirely political. Thanks Jezza. Appreciate the feedback. I didn't think Mark Korda had a hope of keeping the presidency anyway and what you say confirms it. What I was hoping for was a two way battle between Peter Murphy and Jeff Browne, but it appears that won't eventuate. Is there any chance that a director will be appointed by a vote of the members that isn't from the Browne camp or the Korda camp? That would be a great outcome.

Yes as long as the person is nominated. Could someone nominate Eddie?MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:Is there any chance that a director will be appointed by a vote of the members that isn't from the Browne camp or the Korda camp? That would be a great outcome.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

If she'd given them $5k cash instead of $5k gold watches, none of us would ever have heard about it. The executives in question did a deal - Bank@Post - that netted $220 million as well as improving banking services to people in rural areas where the banks had closed branches. In her term Holgate scrapped $7m in executive bonuses and saved half a billion. Then got thrown under the bus over $20,000RudeBoy wrote:at a time when ordinary Australia Post staff are generally low paid, and many are losing their jobs, to hand out expensive bonuses to senior managers, simply for doing their jobs, was a poor decision

Mark Korda will be well advised to get on the phone to YCC.
Interseting to see what the MPS calling for publishing of a report it was about their organisations would say.
Thee answer is you are damned before you do it. No sensible sporting club will ever do this now. It will stay where it it has always been..

Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.
According to the points Jezza put up from the Real Footy podcast, it looks quite possible that the board have some kind of agreement among themselves, where a slightly reluctant Korda has the gig for the short term (coach appointment etc), with Browne set to take on a more permanent role after the AGM.
Pure conjecture but is there a semblance of "team" we're seeing here?

Yep! Evinced by the findings of the investigation, the settlement, and contribution to legal cost. Global Express picked her up in a flash. Further the way she stood up to the bullying - just enhances her bon fides.Fino wrote:Biggest hatchet job in Australian corporate history. Entirely political. If she goes - as with Aust Post - our loss will be someone else's gain.In 2018 Australia Post secured a lucrative commitment from Commonwealth Bank, Westpac and NAB to contribute $100 million a year to fund banking services in post office branches.
The deal is at the heart of the Cartier watch controversy, but Licensed Post Office (LPO) Group executive director Angela Cramp hailed it as a much-needed lifeline for post offices struggling to turn a profit.
"Christine Holgate came into the business and the first thing she did was say we are effectively losing $50 million providing underfunded bank services," she said.
"She told the banks they have to contribute and cover the cost and she got them to agree.
"I am overjoyed that somebody battered down the doors of the banks.
"Now everyone across Australia has access to banking at the post office."
LPO Group said hundreds of post office licensees had expressed their support for Ms Holgate, insisting they would be out of business if not for the changes she had made to the organisation.
