The NSW system will be similarly overrun. Think about it - every COVID ICU patient will be there for weeks. That simply isn't what ordinarily happens with other conditions. For the most part, people have a brief crisis and move on. I appreciate that's not always the case but it is, typically, with much emergency treatment.stui magpie wrote:I posted an article a week or so ago, the Victorian Public Health system is a mess, similar to WA. The fact that Covid patients would overwhelm it says more about the state of the system.
In Victoria:
Reported yesterday: 445 new local cases and 0 cases acquired overseas.
- 36,615 vaccines administered
- 42,694 test results received
- Sadly, two people with COVID-19 have died
Of the local cases, 129 are linked to known cases and outbreaks. Further case information will be provided this morning.

If it went Bunta like in the UK, absolutely they'd be overwhelmed but my sense is that the NSW public health system is currently more robust than either of Victoria or WA.Pies4shaw wrote:The NSW system will be similarly overrun. The NSW Health department seem to think they can manage, and in a cause for optimism it seems NSW cases have not just plateaued but they've managed to flatten the curve.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
From NSW Health:
NSW recorded 1,127 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Eight new cases were acquired overseas, one new case was acquired in Victoria, and 28 previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 45,593.
Sadly, NSW Health has been notified of the deaths of two people who had COVID-19.
A woman in her 80s from western Sydney died at Ryde Hospital.
A man in his 50s from western Sydney died at Concord Hospital.

There have been 186 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021, and 242 in total since the start of the pandemic.
There have been 39,954 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.
There are currently 1,253 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 231 people in intensive care, 104 of whom require ventilation.
There were 114,084 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 137,668.
NSW presently has about 40% of its ordinary ICU capacity taken up by COVID patients. That has massive knock-on effects, whether the media catch on or not.stui magpie wrote:If it went Bunta like in the UK, absolutely they'd be overwhelmed but my sense is that the NSW public health system is currently more robust than either of Victoria or WA.Pies4shaw wrote:The NSW system will be similarly overrun. Sick people are sick people.roar wrote:Can we not simply prioritise other patients over non-vaccinated, covid ones?
If floods of people go to Hospital they'll be in the general medical wards and ICU. They shouldn't impact Surgical beds unless the other areas are overwhelmed in which case you close non urgent surgery and re allocate resources, then potentially other people die.
The trick is to not let the cases get high enough to overwhelm the system.
