The race for the Collingwood presidency has taken a dramatic twist with board member Peter Murphy in discussions to replace Mark Korda as club boss.
Under a deal being hatched between the two Pies directors, Murphy will take over as president from Korda, who will remain as a club director until the end of next year.
The shock move is aimed at thwarting businessman Jeff Browne’s push to become Collingwood president and install some new directors on the board.
The Browne camp were negotiating an arrangement to bring the former Channel 9 boss on to the board as early as next month, but the latest development appears to have blown up any hopes of a peace deal.
Agitator and former club solicitor Francis Galbally will almost certainly lodge papers for a spill of all seven Collingwood board positions early next week.
Korda, Murphy and the club’s five other directors held a scheduled board meeting on Tuesday night.
The view among Browne’s supporters is that the club has been double dealing and that a democratic vote of members to elect a fresh board is the only resolution left in the long-running saga.

Murphy vs Browne in an hypothetical election would be much closer than Korda vs Browne, which would be an easy win for Browne.
Anyone watch Footy Classified tonight where a screenshot was shown from Bridie O'Donnell's instagram account on the weekend saying "Please please please not Port. Cmon Doggies". Very unprofessional from a board member.
This woman's appointment has to be challenged at the upcoming AGM.

Browne's been doing everything to avoid an election.Rd10.1998_11.1#36 wrote:That last sentence is at odds with what Browne has been trying to do though
He hasn't told us what he stands for and who his ticket is.

I agree. He and his entourage are calling for an election, condemning the current board as undemocratic, and yet he refuses to disclose what he stands for. I don;t want Browne, for this reason, and also because he is a close mate of Eddie.Jezza wrote:Browne's been doing everything to avoid an election.Rd10.1998_11.1#36 wrote:That last sentence is at odds with what Browne has been trying to do though

I actually want Peter Murphy. His report was what instigated the changes in 2018 which, despite the presence of our coach at the time, almost netted a flag.
If Korda steps aside, and allows Murphy to become president, I think that would be the optimal.
As for Bride McDoggel, her presence is annoying, and if she should keep openly hoping for bulldogs' victories, I am sure that her position will come under scrutiny. But really, I think she is a rather minor encumbrance which, if necessary, can be easily dealt with.

What these latest actions have achieved by all parties is to guarantee that there will be a really 'messy' EGM, sooner rather than later, and that every position will be declared vacant. Policies will need to presented by all sides - and the members will vote ... Total rebuild in every which way ...Magpietothemax wrote:I agree. "Collingwood have discussed the idea of a third option as president instead of Mark Korda or the board challenger Jeff Browne as a peaceful solution to a board challenge, but that third person will not be board member Peter Murphy.
Murphy stridently denied a report that he was striking a deal with Korda for him to take over as Magpies president, declaring he is not seeking the job...".
Murphy calling it a media beat-up!

I pretty well line up with what you're saying. What I find is both undemocratic and unpalatable is that Jeff Browne appears to be lining up deals with the current board for a smooth transition to his presidency and is looking for what appears to be a validation from the membership for the ticket he is presenting. That's not the way it should work and Peter Murphy is right to say that the membership should determine the board and the board should elect the president.Magpietothemax wrote:I agree. Too bad he does not want to be President... the fact that he doesn't want the job makes him the ideal candidate!

O’Donnell quits!!
Thank goodness. At least a modicum of sense has been shown by the members of this dreadful administration.
Unfortunately for her, O’Donnell will remain a mere footnote in the history of the Collingwood Football Club. She should however be a gold-standard reminder to all future boards that cynically imposing on the club those people who have no real passion or love for the club, will be rejected by the members and will almost invariably end in tears.

Very disappointing. Thought she was an excellent addition to the board. Filled a sports-science expertise void that's existed since Kennedy's departure.robevpau1 wrote:https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bridie-o-donnell-quits-collingwood-board-20210916-p58s25.html
Bridie O’Donnell quits Collingwood board
As an ancillary impact, it also imperils state government funding for the sports medicine development at Olympic park which was linked to gender balances on boards. Was that $15m?
