Outstanding - should be sort of safe-ish by Australia Day, with a little luck.

Of course, the Doherty modelling treats Australia as one undivided whole, so the progress of individual states is actually irrelevant to their calculations. It seems to have some political significance but opening early in one part of the country is just going to kill people in other parts.

In Victoria:
Reported yesterday: 507 new local cases and 0 cases acquired overseas.
- 43,441 vaccines administered
- 58,619 test results received
- Sadly, 1 person with COVID-19 has died
There is again some reason to be optimistic about the apparent slowing of the rate of growth. For comparison, NSW first broke 500 cases on 18 August and 3 days later the number was 832. Victoria first broke 500 cases on 16 September and 3 days later the number is 507.

From the ABC blog:
Victorian journalists will attend a budget-style lockup this morning to read the detail of the government's roadmap out of lockdown before it is released to the public.

It is expected we will hear from authorities shortly after noon, but an official time has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, in Qld, they've had 1,000 or so fewer cases than NSW, again - this from the ABC blog:
"It's a double doughnut day," Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says.

That's a bullshit argument. If we had huge vaccine supply, it would have gone unused, wasted or being given overseas. It was not until Delta, and when the shit hit the fan in NSW and VIC that people suddenly lost their vaccine hesitancy.

From the ABC blog:
Police Association Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt said Saturday's events were not legitimate protests.

"It’s utterly disgraceful. What we saw yesterday were just acts from criminals. They weren’t protest activities, they were criminal acts," Mr Gatt said.

"We can’t stand for that, we can’t tolerate that and it’s got to stop."
It's good that the Plod can make the distinction.

Is the reduction in testing numbers due to a change in mandatory testing?

On a separate note, AustPost has introduced restrictions on staff working across different sites eg. if you work at a one post office/delivery centre and then have to work at a different site, employees will need to have a negative COVID test before going to the new site. As things start to open up they anticipate more cases and trying to limit the possibility of cases infecting multiple sites.
