I was just talking to someone currently in day 12 of home quarantine after an outbreak at their childs day care.

She's suitably happy and amazed that while a number of other children have tested positive, her child and her haven't, despite 4 days of exposure.

Day 13 test tomorrow.

Its actually not a real funeral home but the website directs you to a medical clinic. But very clever by the ad agency.

Maybe too clever? I like the idea, but you've got to expect a lot of people are going to take that at face value. (Whether seeing a three-word slogan on a truck is actually going to change anyone's mind is a valid question, but you can see it contributing to a larger atmosphere of negativity/wariness over vaccines.)

I'm curious by the testing regime if you know, do they get regular tests or just at the start then day 13? I remember an earlier outbreak a lot of Day 13 positives were the reason for a spike, but is that because people don't get tested until day 13 or had no symptoms?

Also curious if they go to testing centres for Day 13 or do DHS visit them? Can't imagine DHS having the resources to do that though?

So what have we learned:

1. US deaths from COVID are running at a quarter of what it was with the Spanish Flu

2. US has disproportionately high COVID cases globally. Because we can believe the numbers coming from all of SE Asia, China, the Middle East, Africa and most of South America.

2. 74% of US adults have a first vaccination - about the same as here

3. Uptake has been hit by a polarised political climate and misinformation supercharging vaccine hesitancy to historically new heights. - same as here

Reported yesterday: 628 new local cases and 0 cases acquired overseas.
- 43,056 vaccines administered
- 60,829 test results received
- Sadly, 3 people with COVID-19 have died

If you are deemed a close contact you isolate for 14 days and get tested straight away if symptomatic or have been to a tier 1 site. Day 13 test is to check you are negative and OK to leave iso. DHHS doesn't come to you for test, you can leave home for a test.

Victoria's going up slowly. NSW is coming down slowly. End of the week, maybe start of next week, as things stand?
