As I said in an earlier post we have been paying the additional social club add on (for 3 memberships) for a number of years now (probably since they changed the intestate memberships from the “Social Club Interstate” category).

At about $100 per membership, that is money we won’t be paying anymore.

More board-related news from The Age tonight by Gleeson and Niall.

[*] Korda was asked by other board members last week to step aside at the end of year to ensure there's a peaceful handover to Browne and his ticket.

[*] Korda unwilling to step aside early until he reaches the 12-month mark since he first became president, which will be around Anzac Day next year.

[*] Browne endorses having Christine Holgate on the board.

[*] Browne's ticket includes "two financial heads" in Barry Carp, founder of venture capital firm, River Capital and Renee Roberts, APRA executive.

[*] Murphy could sacrifice himself and not volunteer to re-contest his own position on the board.

[*] If Korda steps aside early, Murphy may volunteer to contest his vacancy instead.

Based on the information from the article, the board composition could consist of the following:
- Jeff Browne (president)
- Jodie Sizer
- Paul Licuria
- Christine Holgate
- Barry Carp
- Renee Roberts
- Peter Murphy? (if Korda steps aside early, and he volunteers to contest his vacancy)

A lot of this is predicated on what Korda does next. If he steps aside early, the process could be a lot more straightforward.

The other point of interest will be whether any candidates nominate themselves for a board position from October 15 until November 4 when nominations close.

Currently we have a board vacancy with O'Donnell resigning recently, Korda will be leaving next year at the latest and Wilson's appointment will need to be ratified at the AGM first.

Does Korda get a monetary bonus for lasting 12 months as president or is it just personal preference?

No idea.

I don't understand the significance of having to be there for 12 months or longer.

^Thanks for the update, Jezza. Christine Holgate sounds like a winner from her record and everything sane observers have said about her.

Our club is prone to dubious finance types from the wrong end of The City. As a hybrid commercial-community mix, footy is very different to either wheeling and dealing (VC, private equity, etc.) or fund management (entirely dispassionate, regardless of time horizon).

Clubs are long-term institutions and need to be managed accordingly. Unless you're starting a breakaway league or launching in a new market, innovation at a football club needs to be targeted to leadership and culture, the football department, and marketing and community engagement, not to its finances. But the temptation is to employ egomaniacal tools who think they can use club assets and cash flow to burnish their CVs and networks.

We need to look very closely at the qualifications and track records of everyone, but if they come from finance are they skilled at building organisations or merely trading in them?
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

All the Board positions are voluntary, so I can't see how.

My assumption would be ego. I highly doubt he's paid much if anything for his role as it is, and I am sure he wouldnt be holding out for a $100k bonus... The guy is probably worth $100m!!
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

How selfish of this person. Get out now and do the club your greatest service.

Korda is holding the Club back by not stepping down now.

Can't the signatures gained through the EGM push be used to vote Korda out anyway if needed?

Totally agree with you. Really causing a problem instead of acting with honour when he fully knows that he won’t have enough members votes to win it. Bloody selfish of him.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

Would love to know why he is so insistent he lasts 12 months, if it's solely for ego it's not a good look

I'm not a voting member Laz but just who are the alternatives? What do they stand for? How will they lead the club through the rebuild and the implementation of the Do Better report recommendations? How do they make the Board a stronger more cohesive unit? What would be different if he was to stand down today?

Browne?
Heard all this before in the 1980's with Ranald McDonald. That turned out well.
