You can only have an election if someone's willing to run.

I aint willing to make the commitment required if on the odd chance I was elected, but I can't complain if no one else is prepared to do so either.

It took me a while to work it out after paying years and years of Collingwood memberships but the common interest we share with the Collingwood board is that we both want the club to win a premiership. We do it because we love the club, love the players and love the comrade of our fellow Collingwood supporters. They do it to add it to their curriculum vitae.

You could always run.
For what it's worth we do have at least one person here who has stated that he's willing to run for a board position, and I think we should all get behind him.

^^ I'm not a voting member but if I was I wouldn't be throwing my weight behind anyone without knowing who they were and what they offered to the board and the club.

I've not heard a whisper of any outsiders nominating for the board.

While I'm sure that the powers that be would work pretty hard to ensure that nothing "untoward" occurs, we only have ourselves to blame for any future complaints of there "there are never elections".

That includes me of course, although if someone outside the 2 main camps was considering running, I'd certainly listen and consider assistance.

Australia Post gas taken over 5 weeks to deliver mu replacement credit card to Thailand and I am waiting. The last one took 11 weeks. .Yet Christine Holgate sees fit to hand out watches to people for non core activities. I would like to know what she thinks is the core business of the Collingwood football club is.

^^ you do realise that Australia Post isn't the only player in getting a delivery delivered into Thailand don't you?

PS: Those "non-core" activities went a long way toward making Australia Post financially viable.... just saying.

It is a shame but a big element of truth with that comment

I have pleaded with the bank to use DHL or any of the 7 or so courier companies wizzing around here. Including Linfox and Fedex.

2 beer carton sized parcels were sent from here at 2.30 on a wednesday via Thai post and delivered through covid red zones 450 km away by 4.00 the next day.

My parents ran a Licensed Post Office in rural qld for 20 years until they closed a lot of them down so I have some idea. Dad made most of his money through Commonwealth Bank deposits and through the convenience shop they set up.

Straw poll: how many people would give two hoots what the board was doing if we won a flag this year/next year?

I personally wouldnt. Now, ignoring the rebuild, can any team win a flag if their board is a rabble? Maybe not.

I personally believe (without any way to justify it) that if our board is "bad" or "the worst" then it's only 10% (not 50%) worse than the next mob and only perhaps 15% worse than a team who has won a flag (remember our shambles of a board could have almost "claimed" a flag in 2018. Look at where Richmond were just 5 years ago. Look at where Hawthorn are now. I'm happy to see some change, but I am not going to rant about all the idealistic things a board should be/do. A lot has happened in the last 12 months to fix problems - I'm excited to see what comes of all that before I demand fair representation and transparency. Come to think of it where in our lives do we get those things from any board or government?
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

I'm not sure why there's a perception the Board is/was bad. You can see significant positive activity over recent years.

- Reliant upon pokie revenue - moved out of pokies.
- Had governance issues - recruited board members with expertise in governance.
- There were community perceptions of unresolved racist issues - recruited Sizer to the board, initiated the RAP, commissioned the Do Better review.

By all the other metrics the club is doing fine.

People were angry over the 2020 trade period and needed to vent. Blamed the board for Football Department decisions and the outcomes they wrought.

Some of the venom originates from the hack journos whose contracts at work about meeting the employers expected goals and standards must specify the output percentages required for crapping on Collingwood regularly and of course these poor lemmings will always do what is asked of them. This has always been the case, is the case and will be the case till kingdom come.
