^I think having Australia Day on the 26th of January does more than anything else to keep Australians talking about closing the gap.
I'm always surprised at the people they pick as Australian of the Year though. I would've thought picking some billionaire entrepreneur would be more aligned with actual Australian values, as opposed to the values we like to pay lip service to.

happy Straya Day, but Public Holidays should not be permitted on Wednesdays and people who whippersnip the naturestrip at 7am on a public holiday should be flogged then crucified face up on a Hills Hoist.

Changing the date is inevitable, the important thing is to get genuine Indigenous involvement in doing it.
I'm coming round to the concept of amending the constitution to have an Indigenous Voice in Federal Government along with the Uluru Statement, it just depends on the logistics.

Strange when the corporate world and mainstream politics are on such different pages. I'm not particularly surprised by Albanese's position, but wonder if he's a bit out of touch with his own base's sentiment on this.

In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.
