I'm coming around to the fact that Olliver Henry wants to be traded to Geelong. Now I'm trying to see what Collingwood can recover from the bad news being the loss of Grundy to Melbourne, Henry to Geelong and Poulter to Adelaide.
Geelong is reportedly going to trade to receive a player, Jack Bowes, and his salary from Gold Coast Suns as well as their Pick 7 in this years draft. I want that Pick 7 for Ollie Henry.
Apparently the deal is done for Grundy to move to Melbourne with Collingwood agreeing to pay for a portion of his salary. ( Madness I know but what can you do?) For such a gift I want the draft picks that Fremantle give up for Jackson which I expect will be Pick 15 and 33.
For Poulter to be released to Adelaide I expect that a straight swap for Billy Frampton will be done.
Hence these trades will leave Collingwood with the following picks in the November draft;
Picks: 7,15,16,33, 44 and some third round picks which might be swapped around with Brisbane to allow them better leverage to pick up their father / son recruits and upgrade our picks.
Thus for the loss of Grundy, Henry and Poulter we look like getting the following additions to our squad;
Dan McStay, Tom Mitchell, Bobby Hill, Brayden Fiorini, and Billy Frampton and still have the following first round picks 7, 15 and 16. I'm sure that none of those incoming players match the class of Grundy and Henry but maybe we can pick up some class to compensate us with those first round picks.
Those five incoming players will add to Collingwoods depth and so I expect our VFL team to perform very well next season but I'm not sure they will add much to the AFL performance but maybe their addition to the team to fill roles will free up others to better contribute to team success. AS much as I like Poulter, he played one game this year and did not set the reserves on fire. On the other hand Frampton is a key position player who by many respects had a better season. In my view there is not a lot of difference.

Don't like the chances of getting pick.7 for Ollie, problem is he is out of contact and can walk for nothing (as unlikely as it seems). I think Collingwood will settle for Geelong's future first. This could still be a massive win, Having now won 'the flag' they wanted and with so many players near retirement...they might just drop off the cliff...future first could end up being a top 10 pick.

I too am coming around to the idea of him leaving. I don't want him to leave - I think he will be a star - but it's warning signs now at his first contract negotiation that he is wanting more $$ despite not yet being worthy of it. It is a sign of things to come, where he'll potentially pull the same stunt every renegotiation. Pay me more, or else...

Nothing wrong with wanting pick 7 ( assuming it made its way to the Cats ) but we won’t be getting it. Now that the Cats have won the flag, they start the draft period with pick 18 which will drift out to #20 on the night after Ashcroft and Fletcher are called out as F / S nominations in the first round.
Selection 20 ( on the night ) may yet come into play for Henry, although the Bruhn trade muddies the water a bit with possible outcomes.
Given that Henry is out of contract, any eventual return that involved pick 20 would be a great return. That’s the reality of a player who is out of contract and seemingly wanting out. The club would happily take that option long before they ever thought of throwing it away and beating their chest about sending Henry to the PSD.

Maybe there should be a new rule, first round player can't nominate his club of choice until he has been with his original club for 4 years.

Unless it is for humanitarian reasons, approved by the AFL.
