My take:

Collingwood want Henry to stay.

Henry would prefer to go to the Cats.

Cats are keen on Henry, but prioritising Bruhn from Giants who will take up their first round pick this year.

Henry and his management are talking to the Cats to see if they are willing to give the Pies what they will want (e.g a future first round draft pick) before announcing their decision.

In other words, Henry only resigns if the Cats tell him they aren't willing to compensate Pies adequately. This way, Henry doesn't look like he wanted to leave.

Having a young player stay under these circumstances wouldn't be ideal.

I think Captain Snooze may be on to something here.

My perception is that now the De Goey thing appears settled, Henry may take a second look at staying at the Pies- our 2023 prospects automatically look rosier.

I base this on the noises being heard on the grapevine that Grundy is essentially adamant he wants to remain in Black and White and regain the mantle as numero uno ruckman.

If we acquire Mitchell, he could camp at Grundy's bootlaces (where 90% of his taps go to) and we could be onto a positive clearance differential.

This would make life for forwards like Henry a whole lot better all of a sudden.

I think that if/when Grundy returns, he will be instructed to smash the ball clear of packs as Cox did to great effect on occasions this season.

Phuck Narkle and Rutogolea. They would be nothing more than VFL players next year.

.
When Cox did that, that was straight out of the Brisbane playbook from 2002-2004, when Fly and Leppa played for them.

Clarke Keating, Mr September as he was known. Did nothing all year until Finals.

It suited their game style then, it suits ours now.

We couldn’t possibly retain Grundy now that DeGoey has committed and we’ve committed to all of the ins from other sides…

Unless of course we have the same bottomless salary cap that Geelong have or the brown brothers were on $900k each!

It's quite pathetic
It does my head in that elite sports is about the only industry that is expected to pay employees based on potential without earning it first. I wish I could ask my employer to pay me 30% more and THEN I'll work harder. I'd be out on my ass quick smart.
If the industry your in had an average 3 year life span you’d want to make as much as you could also.

I dont want another Nick Davis.

Also, remember when Nick Stevens was coming to Collingwood and then Port didnt accept any deal. He ended up going to Carlton in the PSD and boy did they celebrate when they got him.

Port of course went on to win the very next flag, while Stevens went on to win 2 wooden spoons and play in 36 wins from 104 games at the Blues.

For the far greater majority of the time, if a club really wants to keep a player, they do.

Kreuger
McStay
Johnson - established himself ahead of Henry.
Ginnivan - established himself ahead of Henry.

2023
Bobby Hill
Reef McInnes
Nick Daicos

Draft pick 2023 X 2 ?

All of the above 'new' players are in addition to Henry. Not saying for a minute I want to lose him, but it may be a case of receiving a draft pick in preference to paying him an extra $100,000 to compel him.

Keep Ollie, stuff Geebung, Henry should realise, this is their last flag for many yrs, this was a one off, and this ageing team will start to disintegrate next season, as their old stars wane and retire. Sellwood gone now, the first of many, and you dont replace stars like Hawkins, Danger, Guthrie, Dunstan, Touhey, in a hurry. Takes a very long time. Our premiership window is just now opening, Henry should realise this, and his manager.

He's a very talented young player, but if he doesn't want to play for us then we should trade him. We need a squad of fully committed players.
