My read is we're into Frampton to replace Roughead. Blunt instrument KPD who's capable of rucking. McStay would fill the same role up forward, meaning Sav v2 isn't required.

Apparently he was offered a new 1 year contract on more cash and declined, so it's not about money.

There's a fine balance to be walked here between wanting appropriate compensation, pushing back hard enough to make it clear we aren't push overs and pushing back too far and sending him to the draft.

IMHO doing the latter sends the message to the players that we don't care about them as people, just commodities

If Geelong aren't even offering pick 18 then unfortunately for Ollie it's the draft it is then - or sign on with Collingwood.

Mackie is taking a big gamble and I know he is a gambling man when I was working in a dodgy money laundering bookie in Vanuatu I was taking some huge bets from him.

We are repeat players in this area, so we simply cannot allow Henry to get to Geelong for an unacceptably low draft pick. That is, this transaction is not about "doing the best we can with a bad hand". That's what you do when you own a single asset on a casual basis and it takes a bit of a price hit, for whatever reason - you do the best you can to salvage something and move on. Rather, this is about setting market expectations about how Collingwood will deal with such matters, going forward. You all need to stop thinking about it like it's anything other than a business transaction. It's a trivial one, to be sure - but still just a commercial transaction, all the same.

Yeh, even Andy Maher was mystified today, how Geebung can flash the coin around, get choice draft picks, so much for equalisation theory. I have NO doubt someone down there is cooking the books, nudge nudge, wink wink say no more, cash in brown paper bags caper. Maher did not exactly say, it but he almost called them cheating the system. This Mackie sounds dodgy, been to Vanuatu myself, massive cut price cheap booze, very shifty place, nice tax haven no doubt.

I mean, yeas this is a business, but its not based solely on inputs and outputs, there are intangibles in football that contribute to success, like not screwing over a player who clearly wants out....a player who could not crack the 22 during a finals campaign I might add. Not a good look for current, future or other club potential players, particularly given our record with Treloar's departure.

I can imagine some soulless bean counter in Saint Kilda making the same kind of pitch to Ross the Loony about Ball in 2009; worked out well for them.....

Fair dinkum, you guys are kidding yourselves; pick 7 for a bloke who couldn't crack the 22 of the 3rd best team for a finals campaign? He had a few good games, and looks good; that's not worth more than a late first rounder at most...and really that would be generous.

Its a shame he wants to leave, but you can't expect full return on investment on this one, as others have pointed out sometimes it goes our way, like with Rocca

A first round draft pick who is a required player with a contract offer in front of him and 2 years development in the system.

It’d be crazy to accept anything less than a first round pick in return.

This one is not a priority for us. Wright knows it. Geelong know it.

This will sit in the background until late in the piece when Geelong get desperate and throw overs at us.

Remember they need to work out the Bruhn trade as well, and GWS are playing hardball on that one.

Geelong will need to find picks from somewhere. I reckon it’ll be their first rounder next year.

We wont be getting pick 7 from the Cats so it's best to not get all worked up about it.

They'll take it to the draft most likely or possibly look to deal with GWS or Sydney and exchange it for two 1st round selections.

Potentially they could even look to trade pick 7 for Bruhn and GWS pick 12 if they wanted to retain their future 1st.
